On 12th June 2017 Fielding’s Governing Body passed a resolution to begin the process of conversion to academy status. This resolution includes a period of consultation – while the Governing Body has made the decision to convert to academy status, the structure that this takes has not been decided. Any final decisions on the structure and format of the Academy Trust will be made after a further Governing Body’ meeting following the end of the consultation period, once all views have been heard and considered. The target date for any conversion to take effect is 1st April 2018. At any point in the process the before the funding agreement is signed with the Secretary of State the decision can be reversed.
This consultation period runs from Friday 7th July to 12 noon on Friday 29th September. During this period the Governing Body will provide stakeholders with the opportunity to give their views and ask questions, including all staff and their recognised trade unions, parents, pupils and local schools.
There are different ways to respond to this consultation:
On 14th of July we held our first parent question and answer session, the session was very well attended. 17 parents submitted questions in advance of the meeting, these are published below. The school Leadership Team and Governing Body presented the answers to the majority of questions asked (see presentation below). Other questions were of a more technical nature and can be answered through the academy handbook.
Given then length of the meeting, it is likely that the next meeting on Wednesday 19th is likely to go on longer than the advertised 9pm finish.
The consultation period has been extended until midday on the 29th September. All responses to the online survey and those received by email will be considered at a Governing Body meeting on the 2nd October.
Purpose of the consultation.
The resolution to convert to academy status has been taken by the Governing Body, however what the Trust will look like has not been finalised. The purpose of the consultation, is to hear parents views to help us shape and define the structure and ethos of the Trust. Please complete the online survey with your views.
Minutes from the last 2 full governing body meetings have been published:
Parents are reminded that the minutes are subject to the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (2000), and some information that identifies third party organisations is therefore redacted to maintain their confidentiality (Exemption S2. 41) . Governing Body minutes are presented as a summary record of key questions, discussions, decisions and actions agreed and should not be viewed as a verbatim record. We welcome your views in shaping the future of our school, so please do complete the consultation survey which will be open until 29th September.
