The boys went into their final game of group knowing that they had to win to stand any chance of going through to the semi finals. Even with a win progression was not guaranteed as we need other results to go our way. The game started well for us as we got an early goal which we hoped would settle any nerves however it didn't seem to work as Edward Betham soon answered with a goals of their own before adding a second. At half time we were 2-1 down after a performance that was not up to par. We still has 20 minutes to turn it around though and were much brighter in the second period. The boys had lost of possession and had chance after chance but between the frame of the goal and the Edward Betham keeper we could not score. With about 5 minutes to play and after another spell of pressure we finally managed to get the ball in the net again. At 2-2 and with the momentum of the game now with us we continued to press for a third goal to win the game. It did not come. The final whistle blew and the game ended 2-2. Elsewhere in the borough Selbourne had beaten St. Raphael's 5-1 which sealed our fate and meant that we finish the group in third 2 points behind St. Raphael's in second. The boys run in the Peal Shield this season is over. Well done though boys. We now have to work hard to make sure the shield is back at Fielding next season.
The final game of the girls group was awarded to Fielding as the Edward Betham girls team have pulled out of the competition. That means Fielding win 3-0 with a hat-trick of goals from goalkeeper Alicia to seal top spot in the group and book a place in the semi finals. Great season so far girls. We now aim to finish on a high by winning 2 more games and hopefully winning the first ever edition of the Girls Peal Shield.
