It is the governors’ responsibility to ensure that Fielding maintains its high educational standards. They are involved in setting targets for pupil achievement, managing the school's finances, making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and appointing and appraising staff. The Governing Body is accountable to the local authority and to the community, both for the school’s use of public funds and its effectiveness. Governors do not get involved in the day to day running of the school, which is the job of the Head Teacher. Governors act as a “critical friend,” offering support and advice to the Head Teacher and challenging and supporting the school to do better. Fielding governors carry out their work through a system of committees – pupils, staffing and resources. They can be Parent Governors (voted in by the parents and carers of children at the school); Community Governors (co-opted for their expertise); Staff Governors (voted in by members of the school staff) or LEA Governors (appointed by Ealing Education Authority, having been recommended by the political parties represented on the council). There are no vacancies on the Governing Body at present. Minutes of Meetings School Policies |
