LEARNING AN INSTRUMENT IS NOT EASY! There are also times when it will not be fun. Regular practice is essential, and there will be times when you as a parent will have to be quite strict to enforce a regular practice regime, for without it, the learner will not make good progress and will quickly become disheartened. After the initial honeymoon period, learners often begin to discover that they start to find the instrument boring – what this almost always means is they can’t play it because they haven’t put in the work. A quick fix is often to swap to another instrument. This is not a solution, as the same thing will inevitably happen a few weeks down the line, and two sets of lessons will have been wasted.
