Today the Fielding girls football team played in the quarter final in the newly named RSK Girls Cup against St. Raphael's. Due to teams being split into 3 groups for the competition for logistical reasons the quarter finals were drawn using a seeding system. Fielding were excellent in the groups and had by far the best goal difference and so qualified as top seeds. That also meant we were drawn against 8th seeds, St. Raphael's who qualified from their group in 3rd place.
The girls were full of confidence going into the game but were very careful not be complacent. The game kicked off and we were straight out of the blocks to find ourselves 1-0 up inside 1 minute. St. Raphael's restarted the game and kept the ball for a matter of seconds before the the girls pressed and pressured to win the ball back. This continued throughout the game as we saw Fielding demonstrate some excellent attacking play when in possession of the ball alongside some great tenacity to win the ball back when we didn't have it. At the end of the game, goals from Serafina, Lily, Izzy, Chloe, Oona and Alessia saw us progress to the semi finals with a 10-0 win.
Well done to St. Raphael's for showing the resilience to keep trying their absolute hardest throughout the game even though they were finding it quite difficult. We now wait to find out whether we play Little Ealing or Oaklands in the next round.
Well done girls!
