Excellent oral health and sleep routines

Fielding pupils show excellent habits in both oral health and sleep. Ealing's Health Related Behaviour Survey for year 4 and year 6 pupils shows that almost all brush their teeth twice a day, and many visit the dentist regularly. Fewer children at Fielding need fillings compared with others across Ealing. Year 6 pupils also report better sleep, with most getting at least eight hours a night. Healthy teeth and good sleep help children concentrate, feel confident and succeed in school. These results show that families are supporting strong routines at home, and pupils understand the importance of looking after their bodies as they grow.

Healthy routines around teeth and sleep are clear strengths for our community. Thank you for putting such a strong emphasis on these routines.

What the data shows

  • 87% brush their teeth at least twice daily, compared with 81% across Ealing
  • 80% visited a dentist in the last six months, compared with 70% in Ealing
  • Only 30% had fillings or teeth taken out, compared with 45% locally
  • 75% of Year 6 pupils got 8+ hours of sleep the night before the survey, compared with 65% in Ealing

Why this matters

Good oral health prevents pain and absence from school. Reliable sleep routines support memory, learning, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.

How we’ll keep improving

  • Continue dental‑health teaching across PSHE and science
  • Promote healthy sleep strategies in parent workshops and newsletters
  • Support families experiencing bedtime or routine challenges
