Fielding compete at Featherstone Boccia Competition

On Thursday 13th January, Fielding took a Year 5&6 team and a Year 4 team to this years Featherstone School Sport Partnership competition at Villiers High School. Both teams were playing in separate competition for their age group and both had to finish1st or 2nd in their group to progress to the semi finals.

The Year 4 team were up against Selborne in their first game and the nerves were on show for both teams as we started the day with a 1-1 draw. In game 2, we were up against Clifton and at the end of the 1st end were 4-0 up after some great bowling kept us close to the jack. In the second half Clifton produced a great comeback to score 3 points but we held on for a 4-3 win. Our third game of the day was against Berrymede and we displayed some good bowling. However, Berrymede were extremely accurate to stop us scoring a single point while scoring 5 of their own. Game 4 was another close one, this time against Three Bridges, but it was Fielding who came off 2nd best as we lost the game 3-1. In our final game of the group we went out with a bang with our best performance of the morning in a thrilling 6-0 win against Hambrough.

In the Year 5&6 competition we were up against Berrymede in our first game and started off with a 3-0 loss. We had Little Ealing in game 2 so had to dust ourselves off for another battle. We were 1-0 down after the first end, fought back to 1-1 in the second end but in the 3rd and final end lost another point to lose 2-1. In our third game of the group we knew we had to win if we were to have any chance of going through to the semi finals and the pressure initially got to us as we found ourselves 2-0 down at the end of the first end. We showed great resilience and self-belief in the 2nd and 3rd end thought to fight back and win 3-2. Our last game against Woodlands was now another big one - a win would probably see us go through. We started slow as we lost the 1st end 2-0, battled back in the 2nd end to go 3-2 up but then lost the 3rd end by a single point for the game to finish 3-3.

We now had a nervous wait to find out if both teams had done enough. We found out the results for the Year 5&6 team first which wasn't what we had hoped as we finished 4th in the group and were eliminated from the competition. The Year 4 team found out next that they did very well but narrowly missed out on a semi final spot as they finished 3rd in the group.

Both teams were excellent today and now look forward to receiving their Boccia patches and certificates in the next Sport Assembly before Easter.
