When do choirs, EMS ensembles and specialist clubs start?

Junior Choir starts Monday 16th September (Years 3 &4- Monday lunchtimes 1:10-1:40 in the Music Room)

Senior Choir starts Tuesday 10th September (Years 5-6- Tuesdays 3:30-4:30 in the Music room)

Ukulele club (Thursdays 3:30-4:30 in the Music Room) started yesterday, but there are still spaces available for this term which can be booked on laser.

All EMS ensembles (Guitar, String and Wind ensemble) and the school Orchestra will start after October half term.

Please note Junior & Senior Choir, ensemble and Orchestra places are allocated by the specialist Music teacher and ensemble leaders and are not bookable through laser.

Launch of the Junior choir

I have been delighted with the number of pupils who have expressed an interest in choir this year. In order to address the huge demand for places I have come to a decision to run two choirs. This will allow me to increase the capacity, offering an additional 40 places and reducing the number of children missing out on the opportunity to be part of a choir during their time at Fielding. Therefore I will now run the following:

  • Junior Choir (Years 3 & 4) - on Monday lunchtimes 1:10-1:40 (40 places) starting on Monday 16th September- Music Room

  • Senior Choir (Years 5 & 6) on Tuesdays after school in the current slot  3:30-4:30pm  (50 places) starting on Tuesday 10th September- Music Room

Therefore for those children in Years 3 & 4 with an allocated choir place, choir rehearsals will now take place on Monday lunchtimes not Tuesdays after school as previously stated. I apologise for the inconvenience caused by this rehearsal change. In light of this, if this effects any childcare arrangement  there will be no charge for your child to attend afterschool club on Tuesday 10th September, though after this week you will need to make alternative childcare arrangements for Tuesdays, we do have space available in our afterschool club that can be booked via Laser.

Junior Choir members will automatically become members of Senior choir when they go into Year 5, providing they have been committed to Junior Choir rehearsals. There are 50 places in Senior choir meaning I will have an additional 10 places to offer each year in the Senior choir for those who join the school later or may have missed out on Junior choir. Places will be allocated from the waiting list. To join the waiting list pupils must express enthusiasm for singing and attend a short informal audition with the specialist Music teacher.

Both choirs will be representing Fielding at performances in the Community, though the 2 choirs will have different performance opportunities. The Junior Choir can rehearse music for events such as Ealing School's Music Association Concert and Senior Choir can focus on the repertoire in preparation for Young Voices at the 02. Although, the change means that only Year 5 and 6 pupils in Senior Choir will be participating in the 02 Young Voices concert, members of the Junior choir will be able to participate when they move up to Senior choir. Therefore in the long run this will give more pupils the opportunity to perform at this event.

Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions about the above please feel free to contact me.

Kind regards

Maria Neil-Smith
