    The Snowman Screening

     In Reception we have been looking at the challenge book ‘The Snowman’ in relation to our Winter topic. This week in Reception we set up our classrooms to create a cinema experience for both parents and children. They all thoroughly enjoyed watching the screening of ‘The Snowman.’

    Prior to the screening Reception had a small discussion about the things they would like to have. The children talked about money, popcorn and tickets. Reception then enjoyed making tickets to get into the cinema.

  • Lost Property

    Fri 18 Dec 2015

    New Year's resolutions?

    The frustration of lost property at Fielding for parents, children and staff has been reduced this term as a result of new arrangements in school.  However too many items of uniform continue not to be named.

    Improvements in school routines to reduce the amount of lost property include:

    • pupils coming to school already changed for PE, minimising a change of clothes at school;
    • class teachers 'sweeping' classrooms, corridors and cloakroom spaces at least once a week, reuniting as many discarded items;
    • pupils and staff reuniting named items with their owner;
    • pilot introduction of lockers for Year 6 pupils.

    Let's work together from January to further reduce lost property by:

    • parents and school staff helping our children to be even more responsible, remembering to take everything home that is brought into school every day;
    • school replacing more cloakroom peg areas with individual lockers initially for Years 5, 4 and 3;
    • parents naming all clothing so that missing items are returned to their owner.

    A range of options are available to help parents label uniform with their child's name.  Please help us to further reduce lost property by naming school uniform ready for the New Year.  The following links may be of interest to parents:

  • Specialist clubs and childcare goes on-line

    Thu 17 Dec 2015

    Successful launch of Laser

    This week we successfully launched our brand new online booking system-hosted by Laser. The response from parents has been overwhelming positive. The system offers one central place to book and pay for childcare and specialist clubs, allowing parents to log on at their convenience to check availability and records.

    The new variety of specialist clubs has allowed more children to access provision and be given the chance to gain new skills in a range of subjects. Whilst some of these clubs are now full we do still have some spaces left for booking. Parents are encouraged to log on as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. If you’re currently being held on a waiting list for a club, you will be contacted by email as soon as a space becomes available.

    No waiting lists for childcare

    We’ve also successfully eliminated the waiting list for Breakfast (apart from Wednesday) and After school club (apart from Tuesday) by offering extra places for all age groups. This means we now have spaces in our fun, play based club. If we still have availability in January we will be able to provide ad-hoc emergency bookings for parents. We hope this helps reassure parents that their child will always be looked after. By the summer term we will be able to offer unlimited childcare bookings so parents have full flexibility with childcare and specialist club options- this is a direct outcome of the club’s consultation carried out in September.

    On-line payment

    Laser are working hard to launch the payment functionality and you will be notified as soon as this is ready. You will be required to pay for a full term of specialist clubs and half a term of the childcare. If you’re paying by childcare vouchers you will have the option to select this at checkout. We are registered with many voucher providers already; please connect to us by searching ‘Fielding’ or ‘W13 9TE’. Please contact clubs@fielding.ealing.sch.uk if you require more assistance with this.

    We would also like to thank all parents for their patience and understanding during this transition period. We hope that everyone will experience the benefits of Laser over the next term.

    Wed 16 Dec 2015

    Staff and pupils are feeling festive

    Pupils in Year 2 are enjoying creative activities in preparation for Christmas. They have been making cards to give to friends and family, and have spent the morning finishing off their special hats to wear to our school Christmas lunch.

    "Mr Theobald is completely covered in glitter! We think he's been visited by fairies!" laughed Elizabeth, 2P.

  • PTFA Christmas Fair

    Tue 15 Dec 2015

    Raises £9,700

    Generous parents, pupils, sponsors and friends of the school enjoyed our PTFA's Christmas Fair on Saturday 5th December, raising £9,700 for PTFA funds.

    "It's the start of Christmas for our family!" remarked one parent of nearly 800 visitors in total.

    "Our PTFA Committee and other parent volunteers worked incredibly hard to bring us this event.  Without all of their effort and commitment to the school, these events simply couldn't happen.  We are all very grateful, " added Peter Dunmall, Head teacher.

    The PTFA has committed lump sum funding to the school helping us to implement improvement works to the building, including the library spaces.
