Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Keep up to date with all the news happening in the school at the moment. Articles are added during the week. Parents are encouraged to check regularly. Our weekly bulletin, emailed directly to parents, summarises content for the week.
84% of pupils in Reception this year have achieved the government's 'good level of development' standard, reflecting their readiness to start learning in Year 1.
Last year, 77% of Fielding's pupils achieved a good level of development compared to 66% of children nationally. Fielding's results have improved year-on-year since 2013 when the school was just in line with the national average.
Children are defined as having reached a good level of development at the end of the Early Years if they have achieved at least the expected level in:
Virtually every pupil has also made typical (or better) progress during Reception. While nearly one third of our children, including our most able pupils, have made better than typical progress in reading and maths, reflecting the high expectations and challenge from teachers this year.
"Teachers have carefully planned learning this term so that pupils develop holistically across a wide range of areas in the Early Years Foundation Stage. We have worked hard to improve pupils' writing this year, " explained Mr Webb, Assistant Head teacher.
Boys broadly achieved as well as girls, in contrast to national trends.
Teacher's judgements were checked this year by a team of moderators from Ealing. Moderators agreed with the school's assessments and highlighted the impact of our Values-based learning and 'Percy Progress' on children's learning.
This summer we are set to run our busiest holiday club yet. Our relaxed and friendly summer vibe ensures every child will make the most of all activities. Each day we provide a range of crafts, play imaginative games, join in with team challenges and create new friendships.
Every holiday club children enjoy our messy play- making slime or potions, running around and exploring our field and pirate ship, making dance routines and performing shows all in the name of having fun!
This summer we will also be joined by a QPR sports coach every Monday to Thursday. Children will have the option to join in with multisport and games sessions between 10am-12pm and 1-3pm. The sessions are included in our booking price and children can decide on the day if they would like to join them.
Also included in our competitive price is a healthy and delicious morning and afternoon snack which we will eat as a whole group. We ask children to bring along a nut-free packed lunch which will be eaten outside as a picnic if we have the summer sunshine.
A full list of activities, dates and booking information can be found on the childcare page.
As the year winds down to a slow summer stroll, Year 4 is continuing to stride ahead with determination to finish the year off strong with the freedom to reflect on all that has happened this year. With so much taken on board this year, it is important to take a look back and appreciate just how much these powerful little minds have taken in. Each and every child in year 4 should be proud of the progress they have made in their learning this year.
Excitement is building as we approach our trip to the synagogue, but the anticipation of being able to fly their kites in the park beginning to take hold! The final designs are complete and the task of actually making them is underway. Please don’t forget to send in your child’s permission slip by Friday the 1st of July, Canada Day!!
If you have not seen already, the information for the year 5 residential trip to the Isle of Wight is now posted on the school website and permission slips can be handed to the office.
As part of their science topic this half-term, children in Year 1 will be learning about ‘Which birds and plants Little Red Riding Hood would find in Lammas Park.’ This learning will culminate in a visit to Lammas Park on Thursday 14 July. Classes 1F and 1S will visit in the morning between 9:30am and 11:30am and 1H and 1P will visit during the afternoon between 1:15pm and 3:15pm. This will not affect normal lunchtime arrangements. If you would like to accompany your child’s class on this visit, please complete the reply slip on the letter and return it to your child’s class teacher by Wednesday 6th July.
Year 3 have been building on their understanding of Pompeii and extreme Earth by investigating the causes and effects of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. In English, we have begun to write our final draft of our eye witness account, giving children the opportunity to put themselves into the shoes of characters that experienced the force of Mount Vesuvius. By doing this we are able to use all of our descriptive writing skills to give detailed descriptions of the eruption. The children have been working hard to include and show off all of the grammar skills that they have learnt throughout Year 3. In design and technology, the children have been investigating how we can create an interactive book using different mechanisms to create a pop-up book on Pompeii. This also links to our Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculum Question, ‘What makes the Earth angry?’ where the children have been learning about natural disasters. Miss Allen, Year 3 Lead Teacher, has said, ‘It’s great to see how the children are able to carry their knowledge and understanding across the curriculum.’
Year 6 pupils have had another successful year at the Ellen Wilkinson Science Fair.
Schools from across Ealing sent their best budding scientists to compete and the competition was extremely fierce! The standard of entries was high and all groups should be feeling very proud of themselves for representing the school so well.
I am proud to announce that Maxi secured 3rd place and Ben and Leo secured 1st place in the Physics category. Well done everyone!
The next Inclusion Drop-In will be held on Thursday 7th July from
2-3pm in the School House.
Our specialist will be Occupational Therapist, Zeina Osseiran.
Zeina will be delivering a short presentation which describes how children can be supported through Occupational Therapy. She will then be available to answer any questions.
We look forward to seeing you.
Following my letter of yesterday, I am now writing to advise you that, having made an assessment of the effect of the proposed industrial action by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) on 5th July, it has been decided that the school will have to completely close for the entire school day.
All school activities will be closed to pupils, including childcare and specialist clubs. Miss Bertram will contact you shortly to arrange additional specialist club sessions or to credit your childcare account.
Please would you make alternative arrangements for your children for that day.
We apologise for the inconvenience that this closure will cause you.
Over the last month Fielding have taken part in 3 big sporting events and have performed well in each.
At the end of May the boys cricket team went to Osterley Cricket Club to compete against over 20 other school teams. It was a great day out and ended up with a well earned 4th place!
Then in June the boys football team entered the QPR Year 6 Leavers tournament. The first team were out all day again and didn't disappoint by playing some great football. The also ended on a high!
Finally we took 2 teams to the APNA Youth Charity football tournament in Southall. We had this years first team and then a selection of Year 4 and 5 children making up our second team. Both teams wore the Fielding shirt with pride and again put in performances to be proud of.
For full reports about each of the events get over to the PE page.
School leaders and the Governing Body are proposing to build a multi-use games area (MUGA) and additional pedestrian entrance for pupils and parents from Fielding Walk.
Before we finalise our plans and apply for any planning permission, we are seeking the views of parents and local residents.
If you would like to contribute your views, please answer our on-line questionnaire, provided by Survey Monkey by Friday 8th July, 9am.
We propose building a 39m x 19m multi-use games area with a surface suitable for a wide range of sports including tennis, hockey, football, basketball and netball.
The MUGA will be located in the south-west corner of the school site, next to Fielding Walk and the rear of neighbouring properties in Midhurst Road. The games area will be placed 2-3m (approx.) inside the existing boundary fence of the school site.
A dedicated, green coloured, fence will surround the MUGA pitch up to a height of 3m. This fencing is designed to minimise the sound of balls bouncing off the boundary. Two sets of entrance gates will be installed to provide access from the school site and directly from the footpath in Fielding Walk.
Flood lights will be erected to enable evening use of the MUGA, especially during winter months.
The MUGA will be used:
For community groups, toilets, kitchen facilities and rooms to change are available within the existing School House.
We propose installing a footpath to run from the school buildings to a new entrance to the footpath in Fielding Walk. The footpath will be situated adjacent to the MUGA.
This new pedestrian entrance will be open to pupils and parents for the main school morning drop off (around 8.45am) and after-school collection (3.15-3.45pm).
New gates and lighting will be installed on the Fielding Walk boundary.
Trees will be planted to follow the line of the footpath inside the school site with bench style seating spaced along the length of the path for parents use at drop-off/collection times and for pupils during the school day.
