  • Does your child have questions following the media coverage of the events in Manchester?

    Wed 24 May 2017

    In response to the events in Manchester on Monday night, it is possible that children will be feeling anxious about the news coverage and that discussions may be taking place in school, at home and on social media

    The following guidance has been produced by Winston's Wish, a charity for bereaved children, in response to some of the questions that are being asked by parents, teachers and children and others caring for children who have been affected by the media coverage of incidents like that in Manchester.

  • Parents surprise staff

    Parents thank school for outstanding Ofsted

    Staff walked into school on Monday morning to find a lovely surprise from parents, organised by PTFA volunteers.

    Walls along the long corridor were covered in photo message boards from children and parents, thanking staff and recognising the school's recent outstanding Ofsted judgement.

    Staff members smiled as they read the kind and warm messages posted along the corridor.  An additional book of thanks was left in the staffroom.

  • Childcare and Specialist Clubs price increase

    Mon 22 May 2017

    September change

    On the 6th September, there will be a small increase in the cost for childcare and specialist clubs. This increase is due to additional staffing costs, including a rise in employers’ contributions to the Local Government pension scheme. Details of the increase are in the tables below.

    Fielding Childcare and Specialist clubs remain competitively priced. The extensive range of wrap around care is a key strength for Fielding; providing excellent quality of opportunity and value for money.

  • Keeping your child safe online

    Mon 22 May 2017

    Do you know what your child is doing online?

    As the half-term break is fast approaching children might be spending a little more time on-line.

    Things you can do to keep your child safe online:

    • check your parental controls on your PC to stop then accessing inappropriate material;
    • accessing games on a console or tablet? Here's how to set parental controls: Ask About Games
    • have a conversation, discuss sites and apps together, talk about any concerns they may have;
    • talk about personal information and what not to share online;
    • is your child accessing social networks? Most of these have an age limit of 13+, check the content and age limits of what they are accessing here: NetAware
    • Is your child playing computer games, check the age limit here: Netaware

    Some concerning reports have been in the media recently about the following online apps and challenges linked to social media:

    • Blue Whale Challenge
    • Sayat.me

    The NSPCC website  provides further resources and links on how to keep your child safe online.  Live My Digital, is an educational site aimed at families. The site has links to a video series which covers the following online safety themes:

    • Cyberbullying
    • The digital footprint
    • Identity and self-esteem
    • Relationships and grooming
    • Security and privacy
    • Sexting
  • International links at Fielding

    Fielding pupils connect classrooms with with the wider world

    Throughout the year, children across the school have been connecting with classrooms around the world to share their learning and to compare and contract different ways of life.

    • As part of their Transport topic, Year 1 have linked up with Kemla Nehru Public School (KNPS) school in Punjab to compare and contrast the modes of transport they use to travel to school.
    • Year 4 have linked up with Ombrasa Multilingual School in Lyon to compare and contrast our lunchtime experiences, with a focus on our playgrounds and our school lunches.
    • As part of their 'What's so special about the USA' project, Year 5 have linked up with Heritage K-8 Charter School in Escondido, California . Pupils have been comparing and contrasting their local environment, climate and culture to see how this can influence the way they spend their free time.
    • The Year 5/6 French club have linked up with Collège Jean-Louis Etienne, in Mazamet to compare and contrast daily school life.

    Please visit our Around the World page to enjoy the amazing videos, messages, letters and drawings that our pupils are exchanging with their international peers.

  • CHOIR PARENTS - help wanted

    Fri 12 May 2017 Michael Mappin

    Choir is rehearsing at St Barnabas on Wednesday 24th May.  I'd like three parent volunteers to come on this trip, or at least to help supervise the travelling.  You'd have to be at school at 8:50, then travel on the bus (E2) to Pitshanger Lane.  You could have as much free time during the day as you want (there are some nice cafes on Pitshanger) then accompany us back to school at about 2:15.  Please email mmappin.307@lgflmail.org or phone school on 020 8567 9524.

    Many thanks

  • E-Safety Workshops

    Thu 11 May 2017 P. O'Dwyer

    Next Thursday, 18th May, Sarah Jay-Bennett will present an E-Safety workshop for parents. There will be two workshops available on the day: 9.00am and 6.30pm.

    Sarah is an extended services consultant for Ealing Council and has vast experience working with parents at schools across the borough. Her presentation will focus on 'The Three Cs' - content, contact and conduct.

    We encourage all parents to attend - the ever-changing climate of technology and the speed at which these changes occur is something we need to continue to educate ourselves on to help keep our children safe online.
