  • New Year Group Recommended Reading lists- Parent views welcome!

    Thu 30 Nov 2017 P. Whaley

We have recently devised new recommended reading lists which contain 40 age-appropriate books for children in each year group. Teachers at Fielding have taken the time to carefully choose books that will hopefully capture your children's imagination. The lists contain colour-bands and a description of the book so that the children are able to ‘cherry-pick’ their favourites according to their book-band level and their personal interests. In terms of choosing the books, we looked at recommended lists which had already been produced online and also spoke to the children in our year groups about what they like to read and their favourite authors. We took into consideration the colour bands that most of our children in our year groups were reading from and had to ensure that there was a suitable range. A lexile rating has also been included which measures the difficulty level of the text; a higher lexile rating indicates a more difficult text. Certificates will be awarded as an incentive for the children to read books from this list in their own time and record a brief response to a reading task in their reading records (such as a description of a character). A bronze certificate will be awarded to your child when they read 5 books from the list, a silver award will be awarded when they read 10 and a gold award will be awarded for having read 15. Before we introduce these lists and incentives to your children, we welcome your views. If you would like to provide us with useful feedback on the lists, please email admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk and place ‘Recommended reading lists’ in the subject heading. We look forward to hearing from you!

  • British Council International School Award 2017 -2020

    Wed 29 Nov 2017 S.Mahvelati

We were delighted to be invited to attend the British Council International School Award ceremony, held in London earlier this week. The ceremony was led by Ciarán Devane, Chief Executive Officer of the British Council, and attended by schools from across the country, as well as a number of local MPs. We were proud to receive our award in recognition for the ongoing international dimension that is embedded across our curriculum. We believe that these learning opportunities offer our pupils a window into different cultures and countries, helping them develop as responsible global citizens in preparation for life and work in a global society. Over the years, we have developed international links with partners schools across the world and are pleased to see these continue to grow in strength and number. Please visit our Around the World page so see some of the international work that takes place here at Fielding Primary School.

  • Y2 Instrumental lessons

Mon 27 Nov 2017 Michael Mappin

I am pleased to announce that we have finalised the Violin and Piano arrangements for Y2 children.

The good news is that everyone who applied for lessons has been successful.  Children will be bringing home a timetable with teaching dates and lesson times, so please check their bag.  Class teachers have copies of the timetable as well, and I will be pleased to answer any questions too.

WE STILL HAVE ONE SPACE FOR VIOLIN, SO CONTACT US IF YOU'RE INTERESTED.  THERE ARE NO PIANO SPACES LEFT.

51 children from this year group will be starting lessons in January, which is an impressive 43% of the year group.  Will this be the most musical cohort in the school?

Many thanks for getting your child's musical career off to such an impressive start.

    Michael Mappin (music teacher)

PS  You will have to make arrangements to ensure your child has an instrument.  Violins can be hired from Ealing Music Service (CLICK HERE), and I've put together a brief guide to getting a suitable piano/keyboard (CLICK HERE).

  • PTFA Christmas Fair

    Fri 24 Nov 2017

    Christmas Fair News

The Christmas fair is approaching fast! At midday on Saturday 2nd December school will open its doors for the annual Fielding Christmas Fair. Please come and join in the fun and games and support the PTFA. We are using the outdoor area this year as well as inside, so we hope it will not feel so busy, as it has in previous years. You can Visit Santa in his grotto, get your face painted, record the moment our festive photobooth, and don't forget to try your luck on the Tombola. Why not enjoy a glass of bubbles while listening to the choir singing carols and then when you are feeling peckish, grab yourself a Turkey Bap (vegetarian option available) and then wash it down with a mince pie and mulled wine. We are also going to be offering a children’s lunch bag option at the refreshment stall, which your younger children may prefer.

The class stalls have been chosen and we hope your reps have told you which stall your class is running and how you can help. Every stall needs volunteers on the day of the fair and some stall also require a lot of organising beforehand. If you are attending the fair with your children, please arrange to volunteer for a slot, or see how you can help your class rep. It is only with your help, that, we can make it a successful day.

Even if you are unable to make it on the day, everyone can help over the next week.

    Bottle and chocolate collection day

Friday 1st December is bottle collection day for the Tombola - please drop in a full unopened, in date, bottle (of anything you fancy...) or a box of chocolates, at the collection points at the school gates. As usual, this means it is a non-school uniform day for the children. If your child is doing PE on that date, then please send them in something they will be able to run around in and trainers. The Tombola is always a popular stall at the fair, and raises lots of money, so we need as many prizes as possible!

    Raffle and Silent Auction

Please try and sell the raffle tickets that have been sent home with the children and if you need more pop in and pick some up from the office. This year we are also running a silent auction along side the raffle. It will be on-line bidding again so please keep an eye out for the link in the next couple of days.

Santa’s Grotto – moving to the school house

Santa’s grotto is moving to the school house. It took 13 minutes for the pre-bookable tickets to sell out and we know a number of families are disappointed that they were not able to get tickets. We are looking at running a session for the last half an hour of the fair where we can sell tickets on the day to see Santa in his Grotto. So if you missed out on the pre-booked tickets, there may still be an opportunity to see him on the day.

    Cakes and Homemade Gifts!

Once the turkey bap has been polished off it is customary to stroll over to the refreshment stall to pick up a sweet treat! What could be better than a homemade cupcake or slice of lemon drizzle? Please help the stall pile them high by donating cakes and other sweet treats, preferably to the stall on the fair day.

The Lego shop – new stall for 2017

This year 3H are running a stall selling Lego. As well as taking orders for personalised mini-figures and key chains, we will be selling donated pre-loved Lego pieces. We have placed a box for collecting old Lego donations at the Wyndham Road entrance. Do you have any old, unwanted Lego sitting in boxes at home that you would like to donate? We are looking for any loose bricks, mini-figures and complete sets. We will then bag up loose bricks for sale as stocking fillers. We are not taking Duplo or compatible Lego “fakes”.

    Christmas trees

Once again Christmas trees will be on sale at the Christmas Fair. The price of the trees is comparable to local sellers, they looked good, lasted really well over the Christmas period and the school gets a great percentage of all the trees sold. We are trying to organise paypal payments for the trees, or alternatively we will be taking cash so please remember to bring enough cash on the day, if that is your preference.

    Children’s Christmas Fair Poster Competition

Our Children’s Designed Fair Poster will run similarly to last year. We are producing a template for the poster, with all the important information needed to advertise the fair. As part of the poster, there will be a space for your child to individualise it, as they please. When their poster is in your window, please send a picture of it to fieldingchristmasfair@gmail.com with your child’s name and class and we will judge the best design. The winner will be announced at the Christmas Fair and we also hope to display all the entries on the big screen in the main hall. Either print the poster template at home (a PDF will be available on the school website) or collect a printed copy from school reception, the Friday cake sale, or breakfast or afterschool club.

    Other donations

Second hand games and DVDs (please check they are working), including board games and puzzles in good re-saleable condition. NO BOOKS please, we don't have the space at the winter fair.

Teddies for the Teddy Tombola, please drop in freshly washed soft toys in the donation boxes.

The second hand gift stall relies on donations of new, unused and unwanted gifts. Please search the back of your cupboards for good quality items that someone else would love.

Secondhand uniform (only new logo items please), sports kit, fancy dress (especially for school dressing up days) and Christmas jumpers will all be sold this year. Please make sure it's in good condition and washed and ready to sell.

From Monday 27th November, donations can be left in boxes outside the main hall, by the Wyndham Road entrance.

    The Big Day

Please can you spare some time on the day of the fair to help make it run smoothly and make it the magical day the children look forward to and love. Volunteers make the fair and if you can help on your class stall please sign up with your rep. There is always a great buzz in school on the morning of a fair so please come along and join in the set up, help is always needed. If you have any questions about the day or can offer us any help please email us at fieldingchristmasfair@gmail.com.

PTFA stand - Come and Say Hello

We will have a PTFA stand again where you can come and find out about the fantastic events we have had over the last year, the money we have been able to raise for the school and where the money we have raised has been spent. We have lots of plans for events over the next year and would love to have your thoughts and feedback.

    Please note...

Please leave buggies and pushchairs at home or bring a rain cover to leave it parked outside. Space is at a premium and the fair is a buggy free zone!

We are offering a cloakroom facility again, by the main hall for a small donation. So why don’t you leave your coat here, rather than carrying it around with you during the fair. Please note, the stall will not be manned, so please don’t leave anything valuable in your pockets.
