  • Donate a fruit tree - Fielding orchard

    Mon 30 Apr 2018

Thank you to all the parents and carers that have expressed that they would like to donate either an apple or pear tree to our Fielding orchard.  If you would like to donate a tree then please purchase and bring to school.  If any trees that are brought into school could be left outside the main reception that would be appreciated. We will then arrange for it to be moved to the orchard to be planted.  We are looking at creating an orchard of different types of apple and pears trees so we can talk to the children around the similarities and differences of the fruits.  We also aim to eventually harvest the fruit to use in our cookery lessons.

Our research shows the easiest fruit trees to keep within the UK are:

Apple trees: Bardsey, Bramley 20, Bramley seedling, Charles Ross, Discovery.

Pears trees: Beth, Concorde, Gorham, Conference.

If you are planning on donating a tree to Fielding then please drop us an email or pop into the office and we can inform you of what has currently been donated or if we have had enough trees donated.  Thank you for your continued support.

  • Fielding PTFA's first comedy night

    Mon 30 Apr 2018

Thanks to everyone who came along to the Fielding PTFA's first comedy night on Friday 27 April which was a great success. We raised about £1,000 for the school.

Doors opened at 7.30pm and everyone started arriving to find a well stocked bar with lots of drinks and some snacks to tempt everyone and kickstart a fun night of laughs.

Our compere was Sam Hurst, local magician and entertainer from the Beautiful Magicians Club who did a wonderful job, holding the night together, entertaining us with his magic and getting the laughs rolling in for the comedians.

First up was Stefano Paolini who is a regular face on the national and international comedy circuit. He entertained us with his South London humour with a mixture of stand-up comedy, characters, impressions and beatboxing.

Justin Moorhouse was a surprise fill in for Paul Tonkinson's place. Justin Moorhouse of Phoenix nights fame, entertained us with his Northern wit and comedy. In the words of his website: Comedian. Actor. Dog Walker. Parent. Sometimes on your telly.

Earl Okin finished the evening with his unique blend of comedy and music. Playing his guitar and singing live with some of his classic comedy songs.

Here are some of the many positive comments the PTFA had about the night:

"Fantastic evening... Comedians were really great and varied styles. Thanks" Mariko

"Such a brilliant night! It was the best night out I’ve ever had at school" Tara

Thanks also goes to Headliners in Chiswick for helping with our wonderful line up.

The support and money raised at this Fielding PTFA event will help raise school funds. This year we are supporting the schools investment in its own allotment and our PTFA funds where essential to make it possible.

Please keep an eye on updates on other PTFA events raising further funds.

  • Recycling and Waste at PTFA events

    Mon 30 Apr 2018

A big thank you to everyone's efforts to reduce waste at both PTFA Comedy night and Tiddler disco over this weekend, we reduced the landfill waste significantly and thanks to all who helped and took home recycling.

We are looking to roll out the same systems at the school summer fair. Watch out for further communications for summer fair waste reduction and recycling.

Over the weekend events, waste was reduced & recycling increased at:

    Comedy show:

    1. Using a supermarket glass loan service meant we reduced the use of disposal glasses.

    2. Waste was divided into Glass bottles, drinks cans, plastic bottles and food waste. Thanks to all who took the recycling home. At school we could recycle the plastic, paper and food waste collection.

    Tiddler disco:

    1. Discount of 20p for using a reusuable cup reduced the use of disposable cups.

    2. Waste was divided into plastic bottles, drinks cans, tetra packs, plastic bottles and food waste. Thanks to all who took the recycling home. At school we could recycle the plastic, paper and food waste collection.

    3. Disposable takeaway cups were dropped off at Costa coffee in West Ealing to be recycled in their system.

    Opening ceremony

We are very excited to announce that our Kitchen Garden and Orchard will be finished and handed over to us ready to start planting on Tuesday next week.  Our chickens will be moved to their new home for all of the school to enjoy.

To mark the completion of the project we will be conducting a small opening ceremony with our pupil eco-committee, the contractors and representatives from the PTFA who have funded this project.

Donate a tree to our orchard

Our plans are to develop a fruit orchard just beyond the chicken coop. We are inviting parents to donate apple or pear trees to our orchard, if you would like to donate a tree please let us know.

    Parent feedback

Thank you to those parents who have emailed feedback in on our Gardening and Cooking curriculum ideas.

If you missed the news article you can view it here

Following your feedback we will be launching as planned in the second half of this term. Parents will be asked to make a small contribution towards the cost of ingredients. Once we have finalised our costings this will be uploaded to your Laser account.

We will not be asking parents to purchase an apron. Instead we will purchase these and keep them in school.

  • Parent and Carer drop-in: supporting stress and anxiety- Thursday 3rd May

    Tue 24 Apr 2018 C Chadwick

In response to Parent and Carer feedback, we will be holding the half-termly drop-in from 9-10am on Thursday 3rd May.

Feedback suggested that some parents and carers would prefer this to run immediately after drop- off time, so we are trialling this new time slot.

The drop-in is for all parents and carers, and our focus will be on supporting and boosting emotional well-being, looking at the impact of stress and anxiety.

This may be beneficial to Year 6 parents and carers, supporting children with transition to high school, tests and building resilience. Miss Gleeson, Higher Level Teaching Assistant in upper phase will also be joining us for this session

Please join us for a chat or to pick up some of the resources we will have available. Please feel free to come along any time between 9am and 10am for this informal session held in the school house.
