  • Sports Trials in January

    Thu 19 Dec 2019

    After Christmas we start the new term of sports almost immediately with a week of Sports Trials. Sports Trials will start in the week beginning 13th January with squad training for selected children beginning the week after. If you want to be involved in any of the squads listed below you must attend trials. Children will be selected based on performances within trials but attainment, behaviour and effort within PE lessons and/or previous clubs will also be considered. Check out the PE page for FAQs regarding sports squads.

  • Recommended Reading List Fund up £125 to £3,646

    Wed 18 Dec 2019

    We are now two weeks into our weekly tracker for the PTFA's Recommended Reading List fund.  This follows the announcement recently that 80% of Fielding's Library Books were classified as 'Condemned'.
    We have a target to raise an extra £5,000 on top of the £40,000 the school has already paid to buy new books for our children.  So, over the last seven days we have raised £125 - just £1,344 short of our target.
    If you are able to donate, either scan the QR code with your phone on the poster at each school entrance, donate via https://www.paypal.com/pools/c/8gmxwZI8ZG or purchase one of the books yourself and ask your child(ren) to bring it into the school office and highlight the value of giving.

  • Sport Recap

    Fri 13 Dec 2019

    We have had a busy few weeks of sport at Fielding as we head into the final week of term. Our Netball team played in their second game of the year against Featherstone champions, St. Mark's and unfortunately lost 10-6. We took a Year 3 and 4 football team to Selborne Primary School to take part in a football competition with some of our local schools. They played really well as they won 5 games, lost 1 and drew 1. We then took a Year 3 and 4 Sports Hall Athletics team to Villiers High School to compete in this years Featherstone competition. The team competed across a range of events and did very well to finish in 5th place out of 13 schools. We then took a Year 5 and 6 rugby squad to Woodlands Academy for a Rugby Festival which they used as an extra training session. The morning was short but has served as extra preparation for an upcoming competitive match in January. Our girls and boys Year 5 and 6 football teams then played in their 3rd match of the season against Hobbayne Primary School. The girls remain unbeaten as they won a tough game 5-3. The boys then lost for the first time this season after a slow start proved too much to come back from as they lost 6-4. Finally, today our Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics team were at Featherstone High School for this years competition. They did very well in a tough group of schools to finish 5th out of 15. We have one more game of Netball to play on Monday against Selborne and then we go into a well deserved Christmas break to get ready to go again in January

  • Primary league tables

    Fri 13 Dec 2019 Peter Dunmall

    New primary school league table information has been published by the Department for Education today.

    The tables are based on how our Year 6 (11-year old) pupils performed in national tests, also known as Sats, taken at the end of primary school just before pupils left in July 2019.

    Nationally, 65% of pupils met the expected standard across all assessments in reading, writing and maths. Fielding's pupils achieved far better with 84% meeting the expected standard and 29% reaching the higher standard.

    Our pupils also made better progress in reading, writing and maths compared to other pupils, above average and well above average in all three subjects.

  • Christmas Fair raises over £12,000

    Fri 13 Dec 2019

    A huge thank you to all the parents, teachers and pupils who made last weekend's Christmas Fair a wonderful success.  We raised over £12,000 - slightly less than in 2018 due to a smaller number of people coming through the door and fewer sponsors.

    We introduced a range of new stalls and managed to use the outside space to help relieve some of the congestion in the main hall - although there is still work to be done in this area. Some of the highlights were the new Snowman Toss with inflatable snowman, Knock the Elf of the Shelf and Santa Down the Chimney. Year 6 stalls also raised a £650 which will go towards their end of year funds...their best yet!

    A huge thank you also goes to the organising team who helped pulled this event together. We realise that dedicating time to run these events can be hard and its hugely appreciated by the PTFA and the school.

    Please take this opportunity to review your child’s cashbook, look out for the following:

    Gaps in provision, make sure your child is actually in their chosen club and not on the waiting list, do you need to book an extra session of childcare?

    Duplicate bookings, for example is there a specialist club clashing with childcare? If something doesn’t appear as it should and you would like support, email childcare@fielding.ealing.sch.uk

  • Multi sport playing surface planning application approved

    Thu 12 Dec 2019 Peter Dunmall

    Ealing Council's planners have approved the school's application to install a multi-sport playing surface on the school field.

    Fielding's pupils will benefit from the new playing surface:

    • at specialist clubs, before and after school, with more clubs being able to take place during winter months as a result of new floodlighting;
    • at lunchtimes, including with Brentford FC community coaches, especially when the school field is too wet and muddy to use;
    • during PE lessons every week, especially during winter months when the field is not usable;
    • at break times, giving more space to play ball games, especially when the field cannot be used.

    Planning approval includes use by community users after school hours. We are talking to local sports clubs for children about using our new facilities.

    Our landscape architects will now invite contractors to tender for the building project. Construction works are likely to take place during the Spring and/or Summer term.

    The project is being funded from the school's own reserves, built up from our traded activities, including Nursery, childcare, specialist clubs, lettings and services to other schools. PTFA funding will contribute to additional landscaping including tree planting to give pupils more natural shade to the south of the school field.

  • Playground Art

    Thu 12 Dec 2019 Phil Kennedy

    This term children have been enjoying weekly lunchtime art sessions in the Playground. Children from the Play Committee have helped to plan art activities using different  materials that relate to the areas they are studying, such as the Great Fire of London in year 2, Shadows and Light in year 3, and Hansel & Gretel in year 6.

    The sessions have proved to be very popular, with over 100 pupils taking part each week.

    We will continue to provide opportunities for pupils to take part in art activates next term.
