  • Does your child have a food allergy or a dietary need?

    Thu 27 Aug 2020 Clare Haines

    From September 1st we have a  new, experienced catering manager, Emma Hennesey, joining our team.  Christina Bordalo, area support chef,  who was working with us and the kitchen team during the spring term will be overseeing this transition. We have been working with the team at Harrisons, to develop clear systems and routines so that all pupils can continue eat safely while at school.

    If your child has a food allergy or a dietary need and will be eating a Harrison meal, the following procedures will be followed:

    1.  If new to the school or new to having a Harrison meal, please contact Jacqui Lacey  at admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk to arrange a telephone meeting with a member of staff from Harrison. We will also ask you to complete and return this form:Harrison Food Allergy Form.  Please also check that your child's dietary needs are up to date on MCAS (MyChildatSchool).
    2. Once you have had a telephone meeting, An individual menu will be draw up  for your child. A copy of this will be given to the catering manager, who oversees the food preparation in the kitchen, the class teacher and to you.
    3. Your child will be asked to wear a coloured wristband to indicate that they have a dietary need.  This should be visible during meal service so that staff can see it.
    4. Your child will be allocated a member of Fielding staff who will oversee their meal service. In  Reception and key stage 1 this will be their class teacher. In key stage 2 this will be a member of our front of house dining team.
    5. Your child's meal will be prepared in line with their individual menu. A member of Harrison's staff will check the meal and sign to say it has been checked, our staff will oversee this and also sign to say your child has received the correct meal.
  • Welcome back to school guide for pupils

    Thu 27 Aug 2020 Peter Dunmall

    We are ready to welcome every pupil back to school from Thursday 3 September. Nursery, Reception and Years 1 to 6 all return to full-time school on Thursday. Breakfast club, after-school club and specialist clubs start too.

    Pupils and parents are encouraged to read our 'Welcome back to school' booklet together so that you know how school will look and feel to keep you safe:

    The government expects all pupils to return to school so that teaching and learning continues for all children. The government has published guides for parents, including:

    We are following all of the latest government guidance for primary schools. We are doing everything that we can to work, teach and learn while reducing the risk of spreading coronavirus. We want to prevent closure or partial closure as best we can. Class and/or year group 'bubbles' may close and be sent home for self-isolation if a local outbreak is suspected and following advice from Public Health experts.

    My plea to parents. Help us to stay open. Follow all government, council and our advice to control the virus, including:

    • attend school only when well (and be cautious with any hint of symptoms or known contact with an infected person);
    • respect and follow quarantine rules for 'red list' countries after any overseas travel;
    • use the NHS Test and Trace process if needed;
    • regular hand-washing at home before and after school;
    • use 'catch-it, kill-it, bin-it' for personal hygiene;
    • maintain social distancing;
    • follow the rules for household gatherings, including 'play-dates' for children;
    • check our COVID-19 information as needed.
  • Get ready to return to school

    Fri 21 Aug 2020 Peter Dunmall

    We are looking forward to welcoming every pupil and every member of staff back to school in September. School opens to all pupils on Thursday 3 September. Nursery, breakfast club, after-school club and some specialist clubs are all open.

    The government expects all schools to open fully with every pupil returning to their school:

    Safety of pupils, staff and parents along with giving pupils access to a full curriculum are our highest priorities. We are following a range of protective measures recommended by the government to keep everyone as safe as possible and reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus.

    Measures such as staggered break times, increased hygiene and handwashing, and children remaining in consistent class or year group 'bubbles' will all contribute to minimising risks, while allowing us to get back to doing what we do best – teaching and learning. Desks in classes are all forward facing to reduce the risk of pupils spreading coronavirus. Adults will socially distance, with greater distance when they work across different 'bubbles', for example, our specialist teachers. We have steps in place for managing any child showing symptoms of COVID-19.

    Sirius and Canopus class group 'bubbles' for Reception and Year 1 pupils last year return to their original whole class groups:

    We will publish our 'welcome back to school' guide for pupils and parents to read together on Friday.

    Parents can help us by getting ready for the new school year:

    • Uniform, attendance and behaviour expectations all return to normal.
    • Use longer staggered start at morning drop-off between 8.30-9am to help you keep to social distancing.
    • Preferred gates for each age group to manage the flow of pupils and parents and help you keep to social distancing. You don't need to stick rigidly to the preferred gate. Please use common sense and help us to help you keep your distance from others.
    • Face coverings for children under 12 years old in schools are not recommended. Bins for disposable facemasks will be available at each entrance gate for those who wear a mask to travel to school.

    Preferred gates

    Parents can support our distancing measures at drop-off and collection time:

    • extended staggered start from 8.30-9am
    • use preferred entrance and exit gates for each age group to spread everyone out across the site and avoid as much crossing paths as possible:
      • Nursery, Nursery gate,
      • Year R, Coombe Road, P & S classes, Wyndham Road, H & F classes
      • Year 1, Coombe Road
      • Year 2, Fielding Walk
      • Year 3, Wyndham Road, pedestrian gate
      • Year 4, Wyndham Road, vehicle gate
      • Year 5, any gate (pupils only preferred)
      • Year 6, Wyndham Road, vehicle gate (pupils only)
    • parents are grown-ups and are asked to use gates and times sensibly to maintain 2m distance rather than us trying to check that you are keeping to the preferred gate.
    • as few adults on-site as possible. All Year 6 and as many Year 5 pupils as possible to walk alone, or part-way, to and from school

    Low Traffic Neighbourhood

    Ealing Council is introducing Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. The Fielding school community is included in one of these schemes. There are benefits and disadvantages of these schemes. The school has a neutral view and has had no discussion or consultation with Ealing Council about the local scheme. Those who walk to school will welcome less traffic. The few parents who drive to school are encouraged to check routes and road closures:

  • Clubs and childcare bookings go live on MCAS 8pm on 10th August

    Sat 08 Aug 2020 Clare Haines

    Booking childcare and clubs for children in Reception to Year 6 opens on Monday 10th August at 8pm.

    Quick start guide:

    Book both childcare and clubs through the desktop version of MyChildAtSchool (MCAS).

    Both can be selected from the menu on the left hand side of your MCAS desktop

    1. ‘Clubs’=clubs
    2. ‘Wraparound care’ = childcare

    Book childcare and clubs separately.

    Tip: Click on picture of your child to swap to a sibling, and all your club bookings to one basket before you check out Do the same for childcare sessions.

    1. Clubs are limited to a set number of participants, a waiting list will automatically operate if clubs are filled to capacity.  Book these first.
    2. Childcare is unlimited. You will need to book each slot that you need, e.g. after school 3.30 to 4.30 and 4.30-5.30. Children will attend childcare in 'Year Group Bubbles'

    You can use pay in the following ways

    1. Laser balance (we will transfer)
    2. Childcare vouchers
    3. Tax-free credits
    4. Credit card

    If using Laser balance, tax-free credits or vouchers:

    1. Clubs: go all the way through to checkout and select ‘pay offline
    2. Childcare: select the sessions you need, confirm but do not check out. (Your sessions will move from the bottom half of the screen to the top) this means they are confirmed

    We will do the rest....

    Paying by credit card?

    1. Work through each page until you have checked out and  entered your credit card details.

    More details on how to book:

    Watch these ‘how to’ guides (ignore the bubble concept in the childcare video. All sessions are open to all children in Years R -6).
