  • COVID Jan 21, Nursery is open

Thu 31 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

Nursery is open to all pupils who are healthy and well from Tuesday 5 January.

We have split Nursery into 2 new protective 'bubbles' so that fewer pupils will be sent home if there is a confirmed positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Please see Nursery Noticeboard for more details.

  • COVID Jan 21, Learning at home for all other pupils

Thu 31 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

School is closed to most pupils. We may re-open on Monday 18 January. The government will tell us when we can re-open to more pupils. We may be closed for longer than 2 weeks.

From Tuesday 5 January, school is open to:

    • Nursery, as usual
    • children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable.

All other pupils will learn at home using Microsoft Teams. This is a different, better offer compared to lockdown in March. We have learned from our weaknesses in March. We are offering:

    • higher expectations for those learning at home and in school compared to lockdown in March
    • regular video contact in small groups with a teacher from the age group. Some teachers are working in school to teach children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable. Other teachers are working at home and will support those pupils learning at home. This might be different from your usual class teacher.
    • teachers working in school will be:
      • Year 6, Mr Kausar
      • Year 5, Miss Cowing
      • Year 4, Mr Bloomfield and Miss Mohammed
      • Year 3, Miss Augustine and Miss Whaley
      • Year 2, Mrs Bumby and Miss Zurbrugg
      • Year 1, Ms Lateef, Miss Dottin
      • Reception, Miss Karim, Ms O'Neil
    • Specialist teachers for French, Music and PE - Mme Mahvelati, Mr Thomas, Mr Winn and Miss Neil-Smith - will provide video lessons for everyone learning at home and in school.
    • pupils must complete the learning at home using Microsoft Teams. Teachers will be checking the quality of pupils' work and talking to them about their tasks during their video call.
  • COVID Jan 21, Learning in school for children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable

Thu 31 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

School is open from Tuesday 5 January to children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable.

Key-worker parents can tell us that their children will be in school using MyChildatSchool (MCAS) from now.  We are not seeking proof from your employer of key-worker status at this stage. Our offer is unlimited and guaranteed. If you are a key-worker, your child can and should come to school.

If you need additional wrap-around childcare at Breakfast or After-school club, please book and pay, as usual using MCAS. Childcare will be organised by year group bubble.

Vulnerable pupils are identified by us. The government has rules about which pupils are 'vulnerable'. This includes those pupils with special educational needs who have an education, health and care plan; are under social care with a social worker or at the cusp of needing social care.

This is a different offer compared to lockdown in March. Our focus is on learning in school rather than childcare. This means:

    • pupils must come to school every day, as long as they are healthy and well. You cannot choose days at home and days in school. Pupils in school will be taught by the same teacher from the year group with pupils at home sharing different teachers from the year group. We cannot mix and match pupils and teachers.
    • pupils learning in school will broadly follow the same curriculum as those learning at home. This will be a blend of video lessons from Oak Academy, our own teachers and our own learning tasks. This means all pupils will cover the same thing in school or at home.
    • expectations for learning in school and learning at home are higher compared to lockdown in March.
    • teachers working in school will be:
      • Year 6, Mr Kausar
      • Year 5, Miss Cowing
      • Year 4, Mr Bloomfield and Miss Mohammed
      • Year 3, Miss Augustine and Miss Whaley
      • Year 2, Mrs Bumby and Miss Zurbrugg
      • Year 1, Ms Lateef, Miss Dottin
      • Reception, Miss Karim, Ms O'Neil
    • We may need to change teachers if anyone becomes unwell or shows symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19). Mr Taraboulsi and Miss Zurburgg, cover supervisors, may also teach.
    • Specialist teachers for French, Music and PE - Mme Mahvelati, Mr Thomas, Mr Winn and Miss Neil-Smith - will provide video lessons for everyone learning at home and in school.
    • Pupils who have special educational needs and their own education, health and care plan who are learning in school will be supported by their usual adult.
    • Lunch will be provided by Harrison's as usual. Choose between your own packed lunch or hot meal.
    • Pupils will be organised by year group protective 'bubble' so that we contain any coronavirus infection (COVID-19) to a single year group. There will be no mixing of 'bubbles'. This means siblings may not see one another during the school day.
    • If there is a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19), the year group bubble will self-isolate at home for 10 days and we will switch to remote learning at home. This could be at very short notice.
    • Drop-off and collection will be clearly signed on Tuesday.
  • COVID - School Closure. Are you a critical (key) worker?

Thu 31 Dec 2020 Clare Haines

    Check the Government’s list.

During school closure in January we will be providing education in school for all pupils of critical workers and for those pupils who have an Education and Health Care Plan or are vulnerable.

These pupils will be educated in school in year group bubbles by one of the year group teachers. They will follow a similar timetable to those pupils who are completing remote education at home.

There are no limits on pupil numbers for these groups but we do need you to book your child’s place via MCAS. Sessions are from 8.30-3.30 and must be booked for every day to ensure consistency. There is no cost for these sessions. Once booked your child must attend.

To book, please go to the ‘clubs’ section of MCAS from 3pm Thursday 31st December. You will be able to see a new ‘Key Worker – Y(?)’ session available for you to book for your child. You don't need to select everyday as the system will do this for you. Bookings must be completed  by Monday 4th January at 10am.

There will be no specialist clubs running during this time, however you can also book wrap-around care in the usual way, at the usual cost, if you need childcare before or after school.

  • Re-opening for Spring Term

Wed 30 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

The government announced today that primary schools in Ealing will not open from 4 January. The earliest school will now open is 18 January. We did not expect this announcement. We will publish more information tomorrow by 5pm. Our initial plans are:

    • Nursery is open to all pupils, as usual
    • Children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable are welcome to attend school and childcare, as usual
    • All other pupils will learn at home using Microsoft Teams.

Children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable are welcome to attend school as usual:

    • They are likely to be taught in Year Group 'bubbles' by teacher(s) from their own year group between 8.30am and 3.30pm.
    • There is no fee or charge for education during the main school day from 8.30am to 3.30pm. Booking will be by MyChildatSchool (MCAS) so that we know which children to expect.
    • Places are unlimited and guaranteed. We will match the number of teachers from the year group, working in school, to the number of children booked to attend.
    • Pupils learning in school and pupils learning at home will broadly follow the same taught curriculum.
    • Wrap-around childcare from 7.30am until 6pm, Breakfast club and After-school club, is also available. Usual fees apply. Usual booking on MCAS. Children will continue to attend childcare organised by Year Group 'bubble'.

Nursey is open to all pupils, as usual, from 7.30am to 6pm. There is no change to the childcare, teaching and learning for pupils in Nursery. Fees are unchanged.

All other pupils will learn at home using Microsoft Teams:

    • We are likely to use a blended learning approach. This includes small group video meetings with our class teachers, tasks set by our teachers and taught video lessons from Oak Academy and others.
    • Pupils learning at home and those in school will broadly follow the same taught curriculum.
    • Some teachers from each age group will be working in school so that we can support children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable. All other teachers from each age group will support children learning at home. This might mean your child is working with a different teacher at home.

We will write again tomorrow when our plans are more detailed. Booking for children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable will open on MCAS tomorrow evening. Every child who needs to be in school is guaranteed a place.

  • Coronavirus: Test and trace around the end of term

Mon 28 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

Coronavirus infection rates in London are high and rising rapidly. Help limit the spread of the virus around the end of term by:

    • self-isolate, keep pupils at home and stay at home if anyone in your household develops symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)
    • take a COVID-19 test as soon as any symptoms show:
    • tell school and NHS Test and Trace if your child shows symptoms up to midnight on Sunday 20 December AND has a positive test result. We will:
      • trace close contacts from their time in school;
      • email parents of close contacts from school as soon as we have identified them from our records;
      • publish details on Latest News so everyone knows;
      • work over the first weekend and the first few days of the school Christmas holiday to trace contacts from school.
    • tell NHS Test and Trace if your child shows symptoms after midnight on Sunday 20 December AND has a positive test result. NHS Test and Trace will contact your close contacts. School does not need to trace close contacts from school beyond 48 hours after the end of term.
    • tell school if your child is self-isolating at the start of the Spring Term, Tuesday 5 January 2021:

This is important over the Christmas period to help protect every family who is planning to make Christmas bubbles.

  • No positive test results reported, Wednesday - Thursday

Thu 24 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

No positive test results for coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported to school since yesterday.

Please tell school if your child had symptoms up to midnight on Sunday 20 December followed by a positive test result. We will then trace any close contacts from time in school:

Positive test results are now unlikely to impact on close contacts at school.

    Happy Christmas.

  • No positive test results reported, Tuesday - Wednesday

Wed 23 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

No positive test results for coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported to school since yesterday.

Please tell school if your child had symptoms up to midnight on Sunday 20 December followed by a positive test result. We will then trace any close contacts from time in school:

Pupils may still be waiting on test results. We will continue to be available for contact tracing for school contacts until Christmas Eve.

  • Year 3 and 4, Confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19)

Tue 22 Dec 2020 Peter Dunmall

We have been advised by Public Health England of a confirmed case of COVID-19 within Year 3 and 4. Amanda Gleeson, Higher Level Teaching Assistant, has tested positive. We wish her well.

Mrs Gleeson works across Year 3 and Year 4 to help small groups and individual pupils catch-up. She is likely to have been infectious on Thursday 17 December and Friday 18 December.

Close contacts have been identified and contacted by email today. This includes:

    • Year 3, Thursday before school club, 16 pupils
    • Year 3, Thursday support and interventions, 2 pupils
    • Year 3, Friday support and interventions, 3 pupils
    • Year 4, Friday support and interventions, 2 pupils
    • If we have not contacted you, then your child has not been identified by us as a close contact.
    • If you think your child worked with Mrs Gleeson on Thursday or Friday, please tell us so that we can check: admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk
    • If we've contacted you and made a mistake, please also tell us.

These pupils and members of staff will now self-isolate at home for up to 10 days before returning to their usual activities. It is important that we all play our part in reducing the spread of infection in our school and community.

We know that you may find this worrying but we are continuing to monitor the situation. We are working with Public Health England, following their requirements for schools and have informed the local authority.
