  • PTFA Meeting - Monday 8 March - Register to attend

    Fri 26 Feb 2021
Our next meetings are on Monday 8 March at 10am and 8.30pm. The morning session - via Zoom - will be an insightful chance to hear/talk to Mr Dunmall on the areas where the PTFA can support the school, but also discuss the PTFA plans in relation to the £28,000 target we have set ourselves.

We will discuss our environmental pledge to make events and fundraisers sustainable alongside other events coming up and which year groups will run them including Mothers Day Gift Shop, Comedy Bingo, Balloon race, Tea Towels, Easter Egg Competition, PLUS other activities/fundraisers suggested bby parents during the meeting.

We realise this can be a stressful time as parents juggle work and homeschooling, so we scheduled it for a week later, when the children are back in school. Class reps are also an essential part of our coordinating efforts and a class rep from each class should join one day of the meetings.

You can register to join the meetings: 10am - (HERE http://bit.ly/3iyP7TC) or 8.30pm (HERE http://bit.ly/360aN60) Thank you once again for the continued support you have given to PTFA fundraising.

If you are unable to make the meeting and have something to share please email to fieldingptfa@gmail.com.

  • Lockdown Hero nomination for national award

Thu 25 Feb 2021 Peter Dunmall

Fielding pupil nominates her teacher as 'Lockdown Hero' in the Pearson National Teaching Awards. This new category recognises outstanding learner and community support.

We are delighted that one of our pupils values her school and teacher so much, "I believe that Fielding Primary School is a great place to learn because the staff and teachers are always on hand to help if you need it. They give us daily meetings so that we don't get bored or lonely. We also have a worry box that you can email if you are worried about something. They always want us to do our best and to become the best person you can possibly be.

"I want to nominate [my teacher] because they have daily meetings with us to make sure that we don't get bored. We also have story time after lunch where he/she reads a section of our chosen book which keeps things interesting as you don't know what will happen next. They have made sure that we are happy and they try and improve our mental wellbeing. We have a Values Baccalaureate and if we complete all of the tasks we get a patch to iron/sew onto our school jumper or fleeces. Every week, they send us a recorded assembly which explains the pandemic more because if you know more about something, you feel less scared."

Our pupils are proud of their school. Their words are the best appreciation a teacher can receive.

Nominations and award entries close on 12 March:

  • Year 3,4,5 & 6 overnight trips

Wed 24 Feb 2021 Peter Dunmall

Following the announcement to re-open schools, the government is advising against all educational visits but will keep this under review (School coronavirus operational guidance, 22 February).

We have compared our plans and dates for overnight trips against the government's road map to ease national restrictions. Key dates are 17 May and 21 June. We have balanced the chance of our trips taking place, certainty for planning and preparation with optimism, hope and opportunity. This means:

    • Year 3. Overnight camp-out on the field and bush-craft activities, 10-11 June is cancelled. We are replacing this with a day camp programme on 10 June, 9am-5pm. £35 per pupil. Please hold the date and get ready to pay nearer the time.
    • Year 4. Museum of London sleep-over, 27 May is cancelled. We are replacing this with a day camp programme on 11 June, 9am-5pm. £35 per pupil. Please hold the date and get ready to pay nearer the time.
    • Year 5. Action and adventure weekend at PGL Little Canada, Isle of Wight, 14-17 May is postponed. New date is 2-5 July. Year 5 and 6 will be at the same activity centre at the same time but will have their own separate programme. Estimated cost, £265 per pupil. Please continue to set aside some money.
    • Year 6. France was cancelled in November and replaced with PGL Little Canada, Isle of Wight, 2-5 July. Our provisional booking remains unchanged. Estimated cost, £265 per pupil. Please continue to set aside some money.

Year 3 and 4 pupils will share the same long camp out day experience, provided by 'The Outdoors People', who usually organise our camp-out. There is no over-night stay. Year 4 pupils have the chance to experience part of the camp-out opportunity, cancelled from summer 2020. Year 3 follow our curriculum plan as closely as we can without the overnight stay.

We remain optimistic that the Year 5 and Year 6 trip to PGL Little Canada will take place. Year 6 pupils have the chance to experience their cancelled trip from summer 2020. Year 5 follow our curriculum plan.

  • Get ready for re-opening

Tue 23 Feb 2021 Peter Dunmall

For those learning at home, the end is in sight! Thanks to parents for all of your support, kind words, feedback and sacrifices you made during these national restrictions. I've been delighted with the quality of work completed in school and at home. Together, we have given our pupils a far better experience compared to the March lockdown.

School closes on Friday 5 March at 12noon to all children. We need time to switch from home learning, class Teams and key-worker class groups to our usual classes. Teachers will prepare classrooms, hand-over and share information about pupils so that we are ready to welcome them all back to school. Nursery is open as usual: no preparation is needed because Nursery has remained open.

We are delighted that all pupils return to school on Monday 8 March. Reducing the risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection continues to be a top priority. Please see our risk assessment summary. Key points:

    1. Lateral flow testing for staff, twice weekly at home, to break the chain of infection if staff show no symptoms. There are no known plans to introduce testing of primary age pupils.
    2. Stricter 2m distancing between all adults and pupils.
    3. Tighter class 'bubbles' to contain any infection, including at break-times for pupils.
    4. No face-covering for pupils or parents. The government does not expect primary age pupils to wear a face-mask. Staff may choose to wear a face-covering when inside but this does not replace 2m social distancing.
    5. Drop-off during extended soft-start, 8.30-9am, and collection at 3.30pm remain.

Mrs Haines explains changes to pupils in her welcome back video.

Parents are asked to help us reduce the risk of infection in our school community by:

    • taking a cautious approach to any symptoms. Pupils should only come to school if they are healthy and well.
    • keeping 2m distance from other households.
    • coming to school alone, without a partner, so that there are fewer adults on site.
    • avoiding the playground for Year 5 and 6 pupils, so that there are fewer adults on site. Pupils can walk all, or part-way, alone.
    • using our preferred gates, as before, so that we are spread out across the school site.
    • wearing a face-covering, if you wish, especially at busy areas, like Nursery.

All pupils are expected to return to school on Monday 8 March, if they are healthy and well. Please:

    • protect our 'bubbles' so that we stay open to as many pupils as possible for as long as possible.
    • take an over-cautious approach to any symptoms. NHS symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) remain unchanged. Informally, parents tell us of other symptoms in their children, including headaches, upset tummy or a sense that their child is not themselves, followed by a positive test result.
    • get tested and tell us about any positive result as soon as you can, using our on-line form (Parents, COVID-19).
    • be ready if we are forced to close a class bubble at short-notice.

If a pupil needs to self-isolate at home or if a class-bubble is forced to be sent home, we will switch to remote learning at home using Microsoft Teams. For individual pupils at home, teachers are likely to contact them 3 times a week.

Breakfast club and After-school club re-open to all pupils for wrap-around childcare. Pupils will continue to be organised into year group bubbles so that any infection is contained to the smallest group of pupils possible. Booking is unlimited and places guaranteed though MyChildatSchool (MCAS). Specialist clubs are unlikely to restart until the Summer Term.

Teachers will focus on pupils' well-being and then finding out how much they know and remember. For Year 1 pupils upwards, we will use test papers for reading and maths to help us to do this. All low anxiety and with an emphasis on teachers knowing which gaps to fill. Teachers will adjust our curriculum plans as needed. Other changes include:

    • no cooking until the Summer term.
    • gardening sessions start straight away, please check the school calendar.
    • no trips out or visitors to school to reduce the risk of infection, following government rules.
    • Year 3,4,5 & 6 residential trips are being reviewed and compared to the government's 'road-map'. More details to follow soon.
    • new dates for sharing assemblies, broadcast live and recorded on Teams, so that we catch-up on those missed. No class will miss out.
    • return to information on Year Group Noticeboards and contacting the teacher by email (admin@fielding.ealing.sch.uk) rather than through Teams.
  • School ends at 12noon on Friday 5 March for pupils of key workers

Tue 23 Feb 2021 Clare Haines

If your child is currently attending school, please arrange to collect your child at 12pm on Friday 5th March (Nursery will remain open as usual). This is to allow teachers and other school staff to make arrangements for the full reopening of school on Monday 8 March. Find out more here: Children return to school on the Monday 8 March. There will be no after-school club on this day.

  • Finding out how much your child has learned and sharing their progress with you

Tue 23 Feb 2021 Clare Haines

When your child returns to school,  in the first few week's your child’s class teacher will assess your child’s learning in reading, writing and mathematics against the national curriculum for their age group. These are the assessments that your child would have taken part in in January if school had been open to all pupils. These assessment outcomes will be available to view on MCAS from 24th March 2021.

Postponed parent consultation meetings will take place remotely on April 22nd and April 26th. This it to allow pupils time to settle back into school and for teachers time to find out how much your child knows are remembers, what they can do well and any gaps they might have, before they share this with you. Booking will open on MCAS on Friday 26th March.

On Friday 5 March, school will close to children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable at lunchtime. • Nursery, continues to be open as usual, 7.30am-6pm
