  • Stall preferences for Fielding Summer Fair 2021

Thu 27 May 2021 School Office

Exciting plans are underway for the Fielding Summer fair on Saturday 26 June, 12-4 pm, COVID roadmap permitting. So please save the date for a fun filled day.

Our PTFA are working hard in background to put together a great summer fair, as we still have £10k to make for all the enrichment program. It's been difficult year and hopefully this is the first opportunity for the children to have a big event.

If we don't raise the £10k  some of these enrichment programs will be at risk, listed here:

We have put together a list of stalls to provide a mix and enjoyable Summer fair for all the family and have emailed them through to you as class reps, so please get in touch if your class hasn't received an email. Your class needs to select your top 3 preferences for a stall for the Summer Fair. We have a variety of activities, games, crafts, second hand and food and drinks stalls.

As with previous years, the Year 5 parents will do the barbeque. They will also help out at the recycle reward stall and this will be the last year for the excellent team who do our popular bottle tombola.

Please reply promptly by Sunday 30 May. Those classes not replying will get a reminder and then if no response will be automatically assigned a stall.

After half term we will be collecting second hand uniform, books, games and children's beads.

If you have any questions about the summer fair, please get in touch with us at fieldingptfaevents@gmail.com.

    Thanks for your continued support

  • LTN21, School's position

Tue 25 May 2021 Peter Dunmall

Fielding Primary School has a neutral position in the debate about Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTN).

The school had no involvement in the original decision to implement the Low Traffic Neighbourhood in the roads surrounding the school, or the decision to remove the measures.

The school has a neutral position for many different reasons.

Our role is to educate pupils so that they learn to use all roads safely, no matter what road arrangements or measures are in place or location in the world.

We aim to teach pupils to judge risks and make choices to keep themselves safe while being responsible and considerate of others.

It is for the Council, elected by residents, to decide how it wants to manage local streets.

There are strong, opposing views about the implementation and removal of LTN21 around the school.  The school, including its grounds, entrance gates and social media, must remain free from campaign material. Pupils, parents and staff should feel free to be at school, shielded from the debate.

In class, with older pupils, we may research and debate the issues associated with road use around the school site in a balanced way, drawing on our core values of respect and empathy.

    Meanwhile, from today:

    • our twitter account is suspended

    • I will contact campaign groups to set our expectations.

  • Take extra care walking, cycling or scootering to school

Fri 21 May 2021 Peter Dunmall

Ealing Council announces the end of the Low Traffic Neighbourhood trial in our area (LTN21) this weekend:

Pupils and parents are recommended to take extra care when travelling to and from school because traffic levels may change.

Teachers are talking to classes this afternoon about taking extra care walking home from school today.

  • Relationships lessons in summer term for Years 1 -6

    Thu 20 May 2021 L Stabler

During summer term in our RSHE lessons, we are focusing on our relationships curriculum and any health lessons that we weren't able to teach earlier in the year.  RSE (relationship, sex education) lessons are included of our summer relationships lessons.

Relationships lessons are now statutory, and will be taught in an age appropriate, respectful way. Pupils in Years 4-6 will be split by gender for some concepts for example puberty and menstruation to enable them to feel confident when asking questions. The content for each year group will be  communicated on year group noticeboards.

    There are two non-statutory elements of our RSE teaching;

    • Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), which is covered in Year 4
    • The human reproduction system and conception, which are taught in Year 6.

As these are non-statutory lessons, parents have the option to view the lesson resources before they are taught and can speak to class teachers if they have concerns about their children being part of lessons. Resources for these lessons will be added year group noticeboards  week beginning: 7th June.

Lessons about FGM will be taught in an age-appropriate way in a singular Year 4 lesson. This lesson will be taught in the week beginning 14th June. This important lesson has been planned with considerable research and thought and we encourage parents concerned about this, to look at the lesson resources and speak to class teachers.

Year 6 lessons on RSE will start from week beginning: 14th June. The first few lessons will cover puberty and menstruation, including the elements missed in Year 5. The last 1-2 lessons will be the non-statutory lessons.

Find out more about our Relationships, Sex and Heath lessons here.

  • COVID safe new look sports events to replace Sports Day

    Thu 20 May 2021 D Thomas

Sports Day this year has a new look! Our usual athletics style Sports Days which we run in KS2 will now take place across a number of weeks after half term in PE lessons. This means that for the first 3 weeks in PE, children in KS2 will compete in 2 events each and earn points for their constellation as they attempt to be crowned this years Constellation Cup Champions.

As we will be competing in our athletics events within PE lessons it allows us to give our Sports Days a new look, with a more traditional feel. Sports Days will now consist of familiar favourites such as the sack race, egg and spoon race and the space hopper race. We are excited about this change to our sports days but also sad to say that other changes have had to be made for this year to ensure that we keep our school community safe. Sports Days will now take place in year group bubbles rather than across a whole key stage in an effort to ensure the field is less busy and we are able to keep class bubbles separate as they rotate around events.

Due to the DfE guidelines for schools we are unable to invite family and friends to spectate this year  We know this will be disappointing for some parents. As these sports events are during the school day, they are subject to DfE guidance and expectations which at the time of writing is different to the Government's roadmap (this is different again to the rules that govern events hosted by the PTFA, a charitable organisation, where parents assess their own level of risk for their own family).

Please have a look at the timetable below to see when your child will be taking part in their Sports Day during Sports Week and ensure they come to school wearing PE kit on that day. We know that the children would love to have family and friends cheering them on as they usually do but appreciate your understanding in the reasons why that can’t happen this year.

*Information about Nursery Sports Day will follow shortly*

  • Have you every wondered how we put together the content your child learns in school?

Wed 19 May 2021 Clare Haines

Watch next Monday's whole school assembly here. I talk to the children about how the schema in their brain makes sense of the world around them and how our teacher's fit together the knowledge and skills they teach each day.
