  • Recommended Reading Congratulations, let's celebrate reading!

    Thu 31 Mar 2022 P. Whaley

This week, it has been a pleasure to see even more pupils at Fielding being awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold and even Platinum Reading Awards. These are achieved for pupils having read  5, 10, 15 or 25 books from their year group recommended reading lists and completing response activities (from the options provided in their reading record).

This week, pupils in Years 3-6 spent a Whole Class Reading lesson working on writing a response activity as a class for a recommended reading book that they've read during Story Time, English or Whole Class Reading. This was a perfect opportunity for those who hadn't started already to begin their journey towards achieving reading awards. Response activities can be submitted to class teachers on Teams under their class notebook, in the recommended reading section (please see picture below) or handed in to their class teachers in person. We look forward to celebrating more reading achievements next week! You can view your child's recommended reading list when you sign their reading record or click on this link and scroll to the bottom of the page. English | Fielding Primary School.

In Summer term, we are spending a further £15000 on updating the book stock in the KS1 and KS2 libraries and our newly updated recommended reading lists will be published in line with our purchase of copies of new books for class book corners. Please do continue to take the time to read with and/or listen to your child read for 20 minutes and sign their reading record daily. This is invaluable as it instils a love of reading amongst our pupils and essential to teachers as they continue to monitor the books that their pupils are reading at home and recommend new books based on their interests.

  • COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey

    Thu 31 Mar 2022

Thank you to you and your child for taking part in the COVID-19 Schools Infection Survey (SIS2).

    We have some important reminders:

Please complete the online parent questionnaire. We would appreciate it if you could complete the questionnaire by 1 April 2022.

    • Pupil antibody test results from second round of the study have only just arrived with us from the laboratory and we will be sending them directly to you very soon. We anticipate being able to send the test results from the third round of the study to you again around end of May.

    • Keep an eye out for our upcoming publications on SIS2, available from the Office for National Statistics website. We will be publishing the wave 2 results: antibody results in early April, followed by questionnaire responses in early May. Then in June we will be publishing the wave three reports. If you have any questions, please contact the helpline on 0808 196 1270 or email covid-19@ons.gov.uk

Once again, we thank you for your support with this important study. We hope participating in it has been a valuable experience for you and your child, and hope that if a similar study is launched in the future, we might be able to rely on you again for support. The Schools Infection Survey  team.

  • PTFA Balloon Race Tickets - £4

    Thu 31 Mar 2022 PTFA

There are just nine days to go until the Fielding Virtual Balloon Race takes place. Each balloon will be in with a chance to win £500, Apple iPad, Amazon Alexa/Echo Dot 4th Generation, Legos sets or Book Tokens.

The race starts from Alice Springs, Australia on Easter Sunday 17 April at midday UK time and you'll be able to track it over 7 days until the race concludes on 24 April. Balloons cost £4 each and all profits go to the PTFA.

You can also make purchasing the balloon a fun experience too.  Engage your child(ren) by decorating the balloon, deciding how much to inflate your balloon alongside the thickness of the rubber.  Which outcome will make the best option with the prevailing weather conditions? Once the race starts, you can then check out where you are on the leaderboard amongst family, friends, classmates etc.

  • PTFA Secret Gift shop raises £750 for PTFA

    Thu 31 Mar 2022 PTFA

Huge thanks to all the parents and children who bought gifts in our Secret Gift shop this March, which raised nearly £750 for the PTFA. After buying tickets online, children were able to pick up their secret gifts inside a gazebo set up near the school entrance, which added to the fun and mystery for parents and children alike. In total, 154 fully wrapped gifts were sold, just in time for Mother's Day and we hope all recipients enjoyed what they received.

The PTFA would also like to thank the volunteers, mostly from Nursery and Reception, who worked together to share the load and achieve this fantastic result. The Secret Gift Shop continues to be a great event for Fielding families while keeping us on track for PTFA's £33,000 target for the year. Thanks again to all involved.

  • Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 Learn your multiplication facts this Easter holiday.

Wed 30 Mar 2022 Reena Patel

Times-table Rock Stars 'Battle of the Bands' returns. Fielding pupils, it is that time again where you will be battling for the crown (and the inflatable guitar) as KS2 classes participate in the next Battle of the Bands over the Easter holidays!

    When will it begin/end?

The Fielding Battle of the Bands will being on Friday 1st  April 2022 from 4pm and will end on Tuesday 19th  April 2022 at 8pm. Time of play will be limited from 8am to 8pm.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) has proven to be the most recent phenomenon of learning times tables at Fielding as it is fun and challenging for all of our pupils. Our last battle over the Christmas holidays had all pupils showing consistent engagement and fluent practice which was fantastic.  Through its carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice in-school and at home, it ensures no child is left behind in practice and for those that are confident, over-practice is ensured to increase higher levels of automaticity.

To continue to encourage this high level of practice, we are launching our first 'Battle of the Bands' over the Easter break where all classes in Years 3 -6 will participate in order to win!

Since the start of term, pupils in Years 3 -6  have been playing Times Tables Rock Stars  more frequently than ever before at home! Pupils are excited, enthusiastic, motivated and highly competitive to battle one another, play different modes and earn 'coins' to tweak their personalised rock star avatars. This in addition to the regular in-class practice has already shown a progression in pupils' recall and fluency of multiplication/division facts.

    Why is this important?

It is essential that pupils are fluent, confident and learn instant recall of times tables as without this, many future maths topics will elude pupils. Times tables are fundamental to many maths topics as mental maths facts and operations need to be able to be carried out quickly and with a degree of automaticity in order to free up pupils' working memory for newer, more challenging tasks at hand.

What is a Battle of the Bands?

A Battle of the Bands is a fun way to get groups of pupils competing against each other and a great way to sustain pupils' enthusiasm in practicing times tables on TTRS. This battle will be between all classes in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

    How to play:

Pupils can login via their personalised username and passwords. If they are unsure of this, they can check with their class teacher.

Click here to access the site.

    How to earn points:

Every correct answer in any game type is worth 1 point towards the class team. Pupils can play in Garage, Rock Slam, Soundcheck, etc and earn 1 point per correct answer.

Pupils should not confuse Battle points with coins! Coins are separate. They will still earn 10 coins per correct answer in the Garage, 5 per correct Soundcheck and 1 coin per correct answer everywhere else.

    Prizes

The winning class will be announced on Wednesday 20th April and will win:

    • The TTRS Wrangle Trophy to keep until the end of term
    • An inflatable guitar to keep until the of term
    • TTRS Certificate
    • Recognition on our TTRS Leader Board

From the winning class, the pupil who scores the most points for their class team will win:

    • TTRS Keyring
    • TTRS Pencil
    • TTRS Certificate
    • Recognition on our TTRS Leader Board

TTRS promotes the "little and often" technique which is why pupils only need to play between 3-10 minutes a day as part of their daily practice and whilst doing this over the half-term they will be earning those points for their class band!

We look forward to see how this Battle of the Bands 'rocks' out and as the Maths Lead, I look forward to announcing the Spring 2 winners once we return on Wednesday 20th April 2022.

    Have a 'rocking' Easter!

  • Fielding win 'Rose Gold' Medals at Panathlon

Wed 30 Mar 2022 Dan Thomas

On Tuesday, Fielding took 8 children to compete in this years Featherstone SSP SEND Panathlon at Featherstone High School. Panathlon is made up of 8 events in which the children compete school by school to score the most amount on points in each event. Points are then added up and the school with the highest total points are declared winners.

Our guys were excellent in every event, including boccia and kurling but we were very pleased to find out that we had the best score on the parachute pop event! At the then of the day points were added up and we were awarded bronze medals for our fantastic efforts. Although, one of our children decided that they weren't happy with bronze medals so renamed them as Rose Gold medals! A huge well done to each of our children for representing the school so well!
