Fielding Launches New Inclusion Strategy

We are pleased to share our new  Inclusion Strategy, approved by the Governing Board in September 2026.

The strategy brings together our work on SEND, Pupil Premium, attendance, wellbeing, oracy and enrichment into one coherent vision for supporting all children. It reflects both our school values and the latest national guidance on inclusion.

At Fielding, we believe that every child should:

  • Belong
  • Participate
  • Achieve
  • Thrive

The strategy builds on many existing strengths within the school, including:

  • High-quality teaching
  • Strong SEND provision
  • A wide range of enrichment opportunities
  • Positive relationships with families
  • Support for children's wellbeing and development
Why are we doing this?

Over the next few years, schools across England will be implementing significant changes arising from the Government's SEND reforms and wider inclusion agenda. These reforms place greater emphasis on:

  • Earlier identification of need
  • Supporting more children successfully within mainstream schools
  • Strong partnership with families
  • Inclusion, belonging and participation
  • Reducing barriers to learning
  • Developing independence and life skills alongside academic achievement

Schools are also being encouraged to look beyond attainment alone and consider whether children:

  • Feel they belong
  • Participate in the full life of the school
  • Have opportunities to develop confidence and independence
  • Are supported to thrive both academically and personally

Our Inclusion Strategy is Fielding's response to this national direction of travel. It provides a roadmap for how we will continue to strengthen support for all children between now and 2030, while building on the excellent practice already in place.

This is a journey, not a one-off change

The Inclusion Strategy is not a separate initiative or a short-term project. It is a long-term programme of improvement that will guide our work between now and 2030.

Over the coming years we will gradually implement a number of developments designed to strengthen inclusion, improve participation and ensure that children receive the right support at the right time. We have already identified key milestones and implementation phases that will help us move from our current strengths towards a more fully integrated inclusion system.

Some of the key areas of development include:

  • Strengthening support pathways for children who need more help than can be provided through everyday classroom adaptations alone.
  • Continuing to develop staff expertise through training, coaching and specialist pathways in areas such as speech and language, social and emotional wellbeing, cognition and learning, and sensory needs.
  • Increasing opportunities for children to participate in the wider life of the school, including enrichment activities, leadership opportunities and clubs
  • Improving the ways we identify needs early and respond before difficulties become barriers to learning, participation or wellbeing.
  • Working more closely with parents, carers and external professionals as our plans develop, ensuring that children's support is shaped in partnership with families.

Importantly, we are committed to implementing these changes gradually and thoughtfully. Many aspects of our current provision are already strong, and this strategy is about building on those strengths rather than replacing them. Our focus is on continual improvement, ensuring that by 2030 more children feel they belong, participate fully in school life, develop independence and achieve well from their starting points

What will this mean for children?

Between now and 2030 we will continue to:

  • Develop staff expertise
  • Strengthen support pathways for children who need additional help
  • Increase opportunities for participation and belonging
  • Improve collaboration with families and outside agencies
  • Ensure support is provided at the right time and in the right way
  • Help every child find their voice and access the full life of the school

Most importantly, the strategy reflects our belief that inclusion is everybody's responsibility and that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with our children, families and community as this work develops.
