Book Week, 3rd-7th March 2025

To mark the occasion, and to help foster a love of reading, the children will take part in a variety of reading activities throughout the week.

On Monday, we are excited to welcome Performance Poet, Zohab Zee Khan to school. His first poetry collection “I Write” reached best-seller status in Australia within months of its release. In 2014 he became the National Poetry Slam Champion of Australia. Zohab will perform some of his poems for Years 1-6 and give them top tips to inspire them to create their own poetry. Older children have already created poetry inspired by Zohab which will be shared with him during his visit.

On Tuesday, it’s D.E.A.R Time- ‘Drop Everything and Read’- A time of the day when the whole school (children and adults) reads for pleasure.

On Wednesday- Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Parents/Carers are invited to come into the classroom for 15 mins during Soft Start to read with their child.

On Thursday, it's World Book Day - Children (and staff) bring in a potato character they have created at home. Their creation should be of their favourite book character. They can paint it, colour it, add googly eyes, attach bits of fabric or pipe cleaners- enjoy being creative! A display will be created for all to view throughout the day. Click here for ideas

On Friday, we are delighted to welcome back Alan Robinson, author, playwright, animator (and parent) to Reception classes to share with the children how he has created some of his characters for CBBC. Alan has worked on many programmes including Space Pirates’, ‘Nuzzle and Scratch’, ‘Kerwhizz’, ‘Zingzillas’, ‘The Adventures of William Whiskerson’, ‘Totally Rubbish’ and ‘Get Squiggling Letters’. Alan will demonstrate and explain how he creates a character before teaching the children how to create their own. A huge thank you to Alan in advance for coming in to do this with our children.

Throughout the week:

A ‘Mystery Reader’ will visit all classes to share one of their favourite stories or poems with the children. Who could it be I wonder?

Buddy Reading is back by popular demand where older and younger children will get to share books together: Nursery will read with Year 5, Reception will read with Year 4, Year 1 with Year 3, and Year 2 with Year 6. Younger children will choose a book that they wish to share with the older child and the older child will bring along a piece of their writing that they are proud of to read to their younger buddy.

Donate a book- Is there a book your child loves to read? We would welcome any donations of a book to our libraries. It may be from our recommended reading lists or a recommendation that your child wants to share with others’. If they donate a book to school, they will be given a special label on which to write the reason they love the book, it will be stuck inside the cover for future readers to see who donated the book to our school and why. Books can be donated any day of Book Week.

The Travelling Book Fair is back- It will take place in our KS1 library from Wednesday 5th March- Tuesday 11th March  at  8:30am- 9.00am and 3:30pm-4pm each day. The perfect place to spend your World Book Day voucher which will be given to the children on Monday. Thank you in advance to our fabulous Librarians for helping with the fair. We look forward to seeing you there.

Happy reading everyone!
