What a fabulous week was had by all at Book Week.
Children donated an amazing 426 books to our school library. Inside the front cover they stuck a special sticker explaining why they chose to recommend the book. Thank you so much to all who donated. It is very much appreciated, and I know the books will be enjoyed by many.
As always Buddy Reading was a highlight. All KS2 children shared books with EYFS and KS1 children and I have had several requests already from children and teachers for this to happen more often. A highlight for me was seeing Year 4 children inspire Reception children by reading them a piece of their own writing they felt proud of. Reception children I spoke to were determined that one day they would be able to write like Year 4!
‘Mystery Reader’ proved to be a popular event for the children who were surprised by another teacher arriving in their classroom to read them a story. Their faces lit up at the ‘reveal’ of who was coming to read. Another event which will without doubt be repeated.
KS1 and KS2 children enjoyed their virtual author visit by an award-winning performance poet, playwright and children's author Joseph Coelho, current Waterstones Children’s Laureate and Alan Robinson thrilled Reception children explaining his job as an animator. It was fascinating to see how the process works from the first idea until the finished product. The children enjoyed creating their own monsters to attend ‘The School of Roars’ that the session was based on. Alan is a parent from our school, and we want to thank him so much for his time and enthusiasm.
The Book Fayre was very popular and raised £1484. This means will be allocated approximately £700 to spend on books for our school. From the last Book Fayre, we were able to purchase new dictionaries and thesauruses for Year 6. Thank you to our wonderful Librarians and Mrs Hodge who helped it to run so smoothly.
Last but by no means least, a special thank you goes to Jaime Reilly, a pupil in Year 4, who after attending Jeff Kinney's ‘No Brainer’ Tour in Ealing and taking part in a quiz, won a box of Penguin Books and chose to donate them all to our school Library. We are very proud of Jaime for his generosity and thoughtfulness.
We are already planning next year but, in the meantime, keep reading!
