On Friday 1st March, the Boys Development team played against John Perryn. This was the first game that they had played since December but also their first game on the field, so there were a few nerves but mostly excitement about the challenge ahead.
It was a fast start with Fielding taking a hold of the game, with Albie (6H) and Elias (5F) both being very close to scoring but putting the ball just wide. Jude (6P) showed great skill on the ball with his dribbling but also his choice of pass and it was not too long into the game that the first goal finally came with Albie (6H) scoring after a deflection off the goalkeeper. Conor (5H) was an imposing presence at the back, stopping any attacks from developing and being composed when on the ball. The second goal came after Elias (5F) showed fantastic composure to score from close range and double the lead. With playing on the field, this gave the boys much more freedom and space to play and James (5P) took advantage of this, receiving the ball in our half and dribbling past two players, before calmly putting the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-0. Arlo (5P), playing on the left showed great dribbling as he was able to go past his defender on multiple occasions, setting up good chances for the team. Shortly before half time, John Perryn got a goal scoring at the far post, with Tommi (5P) being very unlucky not to make the save.
After half time, the boys were on a mission to continue as the first half and this came with a goal from Max (5S) putting us 4-1 up. Marc (6S) showed great defensive awareness and timed his tackles perfectly to win the ball and push us up the pitch into good attacking areas. John Perryn managed to get a second goal after a counterattack, making it an interesting end to the game. The game was officially put to rest after Max (5S) scored his second goal of the game with a very well taken finish. Playing with freedom, Rowan (5F) picked up the ball in midfield and delivered an outstanding through ball which started an attack and was unfortunate not to come away with an assist.
Final Score: 5 - 2
