Welcome back to school. Despite the chilly snap and a few snow flurries, we aim to stay open and running as usual. We’ve gritted paths, and prepared warm spaces indoors for break times. Only severe travel disruption or major heating failure would close us. Here’s what you need to know.
Pupils loved spotting frost and chasing the first flurries of snow at break today—it’s always a magical moment. We know winter weather can cause concern, so here’s how we’re keeping things safe and enjoyable.
Staying open
Our strong intention is to keep school, nursery, and specialist clubs open and operating as normal, even in snowy conditions. Staff will do their best to get in, though we might make temporary changes to keep things running, for example, combining classes for short periods or swapping a club into childcare if needed. We’d only close if it's not safe to open, for example, too few staff due to severe travel disruption or if there’s a major heating failure that makes the building too cold to use.
Safety first
We’ve gritted main paths and entrances before school today, but please take care and watch for any untreated areas. Pupils are encouraged to wrap up warm for break times—coats, hats, and gloves. Break times will continue outside so children can enjoy the winter weather. If anyone feels chilly, our ‘warm room’ is open for a quick indoor break.
Extreme cold Plans
If temperatures drop sharply, we may consider ‘cold play’—keeping everyone indoors for break—but this is unlikely. In the rare event of heavy snow, we’ll adapt as best we can, balancing the excitement for children of playing in snow while remaining safe and warm.
Heating updates
Minor heating issues can happen. For example, a Year 5 classroom today needed temporary heaters while our contractor sources replacement parts. We’ll always act quickly to keep learning spaces warm.
Closure communication
If closure becomes unavoidable, we’ll notify parents as soon as possible and by 7:30am at the latest via email and the front page of our website.
