Improving our lost property system. Check that your child's items are clearly labelled.

In preparation for our new system, please check that your child's items, clothing, snack boxes, drinks bottles etc. are clearly named with name and class.

We are pleased to share that a refreshed and more organised Lost Property system is coming soon to Fielding. This improvement was sparked by a thoughtful proposal written by Alexa in 6F as part of her Platinum Values Baccalaureate. Her ideas prompted a wider discussion about how we can make lost items easier to find and ensure named belongings are returned more quickly.

Updated lost property bins

To help children and parents locate items more easily, we will be introducing three new smaller lost property bins. These will be organised into:

  • Fleeces & cardigans
  • Coats
  • Other items

Smaller bins will make it easier for children (& parents) to reach the bottom and for parents to find what they’re looking for.

Weekly sorting by pupil volunteers

A new group of pupil volunteers, led by Jacqueline Lacey, will sort lost property every week. Their work will include:

  • Returning any named items directly to classrooms
  • Collecting unnamed items to pass on to the Uniform Shed

What Happens to Unnamed Clothing?

Unnamed clothing will be passed to the Uniform Shed for resale. Before being sold, these items will be washed, either by PTFA volunteers or in school. Jacqui Lacey will be coordinating with the PTFA to support this.
Unwashed items will be stored in black bags in a designated bin next to the Uniform Shed until collection to be washed.

Non‑clothing items: Water bottles & snack boxes

We also collect a large number of unnamed water bottles, snack boxes and other non‑clothing items.
To keep the space manageable and hygienic:

  • Named items will be returned to classrooms.
  • Unnamed non‑clothing items will be disposed of if not collected promptly.

We strongly encourage families to clearly label all personal items brought into school.

In the Interim

Until the new bins arrive and the new system is fully in place:

  • Unnamed lost property will be placed in a black bin bag and stored in the medical room ready to be collected and washed.
  • Once the new bins are installed, one of the old larger bins will be moved to support the new layout.

We hope these improvements will make it much easier for families to reclaim belongings and ensure that quality, unnamed uniform items can be reused through our PTFA Uniform Shed. Thank you for your support, and a special well done to Alexa (6F) for inspiring this positive change!
