Our values are actively lived, noticed and celebrated every day. Respect, resilience, empathy and reflection are at the heart of our school culture, shaping how pupils learn, interact and grow together. We are immensely proud of the many thoughtful, inclusive and meaningful ways pupils are recognised for living these values in action.
Our behaviour and recognition systems are firmly rooted in our Golden Rules, which are explicitly aligned to our core values. Pupils understand what positive behaviour looks like and why it matters, and they are supported to make good choices in a calm, consistent and nurturing environment.
Every pupil begins the school day with a token, reinforcing the belief that everyone has the opportunity to succeed. By following the Golden Rules and demonstrating our values throughout the day, pupils retain their token, which contributes to their positive points total. This simple but powerful approach places emphasis on consistency, responsibility and self-regulation.
Positive points serve two equally important purposes. Individually, pupils work towards their own recognition certificates, celebrating sustained commitment to Fielding’s values over time. These certificates recognise effort, attitude and personal development, helping pupils feel proud of who they are becoming, not just what they achieve.
Collectively, pupils also contribute points to their constellation, fostering teamwork, empathy and a strong sense of belonging. Constellations work together across each term, with their combined efforts rewarded through a shared celebration or treat at the end of term. This reinforces the message that individual actions contribute to collective success.
Values Notes are awarded thoughtfully and deliberately to highlight genuine examples of values lived out in practice. By reducing the number of positive notes issued and focusing on meaningful recognition, these notes carry real significance. Pupils understand that receiving a Values Note reflects authentic behaviour worthy of celebration. Values notes can be seen on MCAS.
Kindness is a defining feature of life at Fielding and is celebrated through our Ripples of Kindness initiative. Pupils are recognised when their actions create positive ripple effects – supporting others, showing compassion, or contributing quietly but powerfully to the wellbeing of the school community. This initiative helps pupils see that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.
Weekly celebration assemblies include our Star of the Week awards which are rooted firmly in our values. Pupils may be recognised for resilience in learning, empathy towards others, respect for the school environment, or thoughtful reflection on their behaviour. Academic success is celebrated, but always alongside character and personal growth, ensuring recognition is inclusive and meaningful for all.
Additionally, each week Values Ambassador certificates are also awarded in every class. What makes this recognition particularly powerful is that pupils are nominated by their peers. This peer recognition highlights the behaviours children themselves value most, such as kindness, fairness, perseverance and thoughtfulness. Being chosen as a Values Ambassador is a meaningful moment of pride and reinforces positive role modelling within each class.
The Values Baccalaureate in Years 4, 5 and 6 recognises pupils who consistently demonstrate Fielding’s values over time. Rather than rewarding one-off moments, it celebrates sustained commitment to respect, resilience, empathy and reflection across school life. The Values Baccalaureate helps pupils understand that character is built day by day, through repeated positive choices.
Families play a vital role in helping children understand that Fielding’s values matter everywhere, not just at school. Simple, everyday conversations about respect, resilience, empathy and reflection can make a big difference. For example, praising children when they persevere with a challenge, show kindness to others, speak respectfully, or reflect on their choices. Encouraging children to talk about how they earned recognition at school, such as Values Notes or Ripples of Kindness, reinforces the shared language of values and helps children see the consistency between home and school. Our Family Resources page offers practical ideas, activities and prompts to support this at home and can be accessed here:
By working together, we can help children embed these values as positive habits for life.
We are incredibly proud of how our pupils live our values every day, making Fielding a respectful, joyful and supportive place to learn and grow.
