We want children at Fielding to grow into confident, resilient and independent young people. Learning these skills doesn't happen overnight, and sometimes it means forgetting a PE kit, leaving a water bottle at home or making a small mistake. These moments can be frustrating at the time, but they are often the experiences that help children learn to be organised, take responsibility and bounce back when things don't quite go to plan.
To support this, we are introducing a clearer approach to forgotten items being brought into school during the day.
An important part of becoming an independent learner is taking responsibility for personal belongings. We encourage all pupils to develop routines that help them remember the things they need each day, such as checking their school bag before leaving home and preparing items the night before.
For this reason, parents are actively discouraged from bringing forgotten everyday essentials to school once the school day has started. This includes items such as:
We understand that everyone forgets things occasionally. However, these situations can help children develop resilience, organisation and problem-solving skills that will benefit them throughout their education and beyond.
The school office plays a vital role in supporting attendance, safeguarding, communications and the day-to-day running of the school. Frequent deliveries of forgotten items create interruptions and additional administrative workload throughout the day.
Reducing these drop-offs helps ensure that office staff can focus on the essential functions that keep the school running smoothly.
If a forgotten item is brought to school:
Essential medication and items agreed with the school in advance will continue to be managed through our normal procedures.
Later this academic year, construction work will begin around the main school office as part of planned site improvements. During this period, parents will not be able to access the office in the usual way, and arrangements for essential visits will be communicated separately.
Establishing good habits now will help ensure a smooth transition when these works begin and will reduce the need for unnecessary trips to the school office.
We also ask families to ensure that all personal belongings, including uniform, coats, lunch boxes and water bottles, are clearly labelled with your child's name.
Clearly naming items gives us the best chance of returning them to their owner if they are misplaced.
By working together, we can help children develop the habits, resilience and organisational skills that underpin success both in school and in later life. Thank you for supporting us in encouraging greater independence and reducing unnecessary visits to the school office.
Reminder: The school administration office and phone lines close at 4:15pm Monday to Thursday and 4:00pm on Fridays.
