The Year 5/6 Girls Development Football Team put on an exceptional performance in their tournament on Monday 27th January 2025, showing skill, determination and teamwork on the pitch. Our girls won two of their matches and drew one, finishing the day with impressive results.
In their opening match against Featherstone Primary School, our girls started well with a fantastic goal from Marie (5P) to give us the lead. As the game progressed, Featherstone grew into the match and began to put some pressure on our defence. Despite our team’s resilience, Featherstone managed to equalize mid-way through the match. Both teams pushed for a win, but after a few close chances from our side, the match ended 1-1.
In their second match, the team delivered a dominant performance, defeating Three Bridges 6-0. It was an outstanding display of skill, communication and collaboration, with all players playing an integral role to our success. From the very start, the girls took control of the game. Araiya (5P) added to the scoresheet early with a fantastic strike that hit the back of the net. The team continued to press forward with Isla (6S) and Araiya (5P) adding two more goals. As the game progressed, Marie (5P) saw another opportunity to put Fielding further in front by scoring her second and third goals for the tournament. However, the highlight of this match came from Araiya (5P), who completed a superb hat-trick, making it a day to remember for the girls.
The girls rounded off their tournament in style with a hard- fought 1-0 win against Southfield Primary School. It was a tight contest, but the girls’ showed determination and resilience to secure the victory and finish strong in the tournament. The breakthrough came when Bea (5H) scored the only goal of the game, calmly finishing after a timely intercepted pass.
The entire team played brilliantly, with excellent passing, defensive organisation and goal keeping from Amelia (6F), who only conceded one goal for the entire tournament. Their dominant performance throughout this tournament demonstrated just how strong the team is, and their confidence will be high as they progress onto the next stage of the tournament. On Monday 10th March, Fielding will join seven other schools to compete in the ‘Top 8 Schools’ Football League’.
Our girls are now eager to continue their winning streak and are looking forward to the challenges ahead. Well done to all the players for their fantastic effort and team spirit! Let’s keep the momentum going!
