Fielding Mathematicians Shine in 2024 Primary Mathematics Challenge

We are thrilled to announce the outstanding achievements of our young mathematicians at Fielding Primary School in the 2024 Primary Mathematics Challenge. This year marked our first participation in the event, and we couldn't be prouder of our pupils' enthusiasm and dedication.

The children approached the challenge with boundless excitement and incredible resilience, tackling each problem with determination and a positive attitude. Their participation not only boosted their confidence in mathematics but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and teamwork. The experience has been invaluable in developing their critical thinking and reasoning abilities, essential for their academic growth and future success.

The Primary Mathematics Challenge, created by The Mathematical Association, is designed to be a fun and engaging way for pupils to explore mathematics. It emphasises problem-solving and reasoning skills, encouraging students to think creatively and approach questions in innovative ways.

The structure of the PMC includes a November paper, followed by a Bonus Round for high-scoring pupils. Schools submit their top performers, and the cut-off score for the Bonus Round will be announced in December. This follow-up round, held in February, will be an invite-only event.

We are delighted to recognise the achievements of our pupils who have excelled in the challenge. Several pupils have earned prestigious awards for their remarkable efforts:

  • Took the Challenge: Alice (6S), Eliza (5P), Prem (6S) and Shems (6H)
  • Bronze: Aiden (5F), Emily (6F) and James (5H)
  • Silver: Tommi (6P) and William (5P)
  • Gold: Xavi (5H)

These awards celebrate the hard work and mathematical prowess of our young learners. We now eagerly await to hear if we are through to the Bonus Round, where our top performers will potentially be able to further showcase their skills.

Thank you to all the parents and teachers for your support and encouragement. Together, we are nurturing a community of enthusiastic and capable young mathematicians.
