The Champions of West London: Girls Performance Team Reign Supreme in Football Final

The Girls Performance Football Team were crowned Borough Champions after a sensational run in an invite-only tournament, featuring the top talent from across the borough. From the opening game to the final whistle, the girls showed why they deserved their place at the top, combining rock-solid defending with clinical finishing.

The tournament saw the girls adapt to a formation of six players, a shift from the usual seven, which required precision and tactical edge in each game.

The opening game produced a narrow but controlled 1-0 victory. An impressive drive and strike at goal from Qamara (6S), secured Fielding’s first win of the tournament. This early win set the tone and gave the team a boost in confidence, and it showed in their next game. With momentum building, they produced a stunning 4-0 performance, led by a phenomenal hat-trick from Qamara who was unstoppable throughout. Wanting to add to the scoresheet, Martina (6S) followed up with a close-range goal, firmly cementing our second win. The win not only secured their place in the knockout stages, but also confirmed their dominance, as they completed the group stages without conceding a single goal.

The knockout stages began with a nail- biting game. The team faced adversity for the first time, conceding an early goal that threatened to derail their unbeaten run. However, the team responded with character, pushing forward despite the early setback. The match saw both teams battling in midfield, but it seemed like time was running out. With the clock ticking down a moment of magic arrived. Coco (6P) powered through the defensive backline and hit the ball at the back of the net with just 10 seconds remaining. The crowd erupted as the game ended 1-1.

The girls reflected on this tense moment and entered their next game more focused than ever. They were determined not to leave anything to chance, and from the first whistle, played with intensity, precision and purpose. Qamara and Coco continued to add to the scoresheet, and there were superb attempts at goal by Elysia (6P), but the highlight of this game came from Alice (6S), who pounded the ball in the back of the net, after an initial save from her teammate’s strike.

The defensive line led by Miral (6H), Lois (6P) and Izzie (6S) had been a force to reckon with throughout. Their grit, timing, and strength ensured that our goalkeeper Alice (5P) had very little to do. After winning the semi- finals 4-2, the girls regrouped ready for the final match.

The final saw them up against familiar opposition—the same team they had edged past 1-0 in their tournament opener. Moments after Coco’s final goal of the tournament, the opposition counter- attacked, prompting Alice (5P) to make a crucial and well- timed save. Diving to the right, kept our hopes alive and maintained our lead. Emboldened by the save, the girls continued to press, not content with just holding on. Alice (6S) received a perfectly timed through- ball and slotted it home with composure. The final whistle blew and our team celebrated their 2-0 victory together.

From back to front, the team showed exceptional quality and unity. Their journey through the competition- marked by clean sheets, attacking flair, and an unshakable team spirit has been nothing short of inspiring.

Congratulations to the Girls Performance Football Team- our 2025 Borough Champions!
