We are thrilled to announce that Fielding will be participating in Maths Week London, a city-wide celebration of mathematics taking place from June 24th to June 28th. This exciting event aims to inspire students of all ages to discover the fun and importance of Maths in everyday life.

 

What is Maths Week London?

Maths Week London is an annual event that brings together schools, families, and communities across the capital to engage with mathematics in new and exciting ways. With a variety of activities, workshops, and competitions, Maths Week London encourages everyone to appreciate the beauty and utility of Maths.

 

What’s happening?

There is a variety of ways children will be encouraged to get involved in Maths activities at school this week but there are also a number of ways that families can strengthen their love of Maths at home.

 

At School

• Maths Workshops in Year 4: Year 4 teachers have prepared engaging workshops that will make Maths fun and accessible. Students will participate in hands-on activities, games, and problem-solving challenges. If the format is successful, more year groups will take part in these workshops next year!
• ‘Once Upon a Maths Story’: An online workshop for Reception and Year 1 to help children to find the Maths which is all around them.
• Maths Poster Competition: An opportunity for pupils to showcase their creativity and understanding of how Maths is used in everyday life. Whether it’s in nature, sports, technology, or even cooking, Maths is everywhere!
• Maths Treasure Hunt: Pupils can embark on a lunchtime treasure hunt around the playground and field, solving mathematical clues to find hidden treasures. This activity combines teamwork, physical activity, and Maths skills.
• Puzzle Lunchtime: A lunchtime dedicated to brain-teasing puzzles and challenges. Pupils can tackle a variety of puzzles all designed to stimulate their mathematical thinking.

• TTRS London Rocks Competition. 25th – 27th June. Key Stage 2 children can log in to TTRS to compete against other schools in order to try to become the best times table class in London.
• What made me a mathematician by James Tanton. 28th June at 5.00pm. A webinar hosted by famous mathematician, James Tanton. James will hope to inspire young mathematicians by recalling how a love of games and puzzles led to a love of maths. • Empowering Parents: Maths Learning at home. 24th June at 4.00pm.
