On Monday 6th November, the boys Performance team played their first game of the PEAL Shield against Oaklands.
The game had a fast start with Sev (6S) scoring an unbelievable goal from near the halfway line, putting us in an early lead. We maintained pressure, allowing Sev (6S) to score from a corner adding to his tally. As we moved the ball around well, Sev completed his hat-trick with a fantastic strike into the top corner, from just outside the area. At this point, the boys were all looking to get on the ball and create a chance and it was Tem’s (6F) quick feet and trickery that helped add to the scoreline with a goal. We made a couple of changes with Daniel (6F), Ahmed (6F) and Conor (5H) coming on. It was not long before Ahmed (6F) got his first goal, following up on his shot to score the rebound. After persistent pressing, Ahmed (6F) scored his second with a well-timed goal. With minutes before half time, Yaqoob (6S) picked up the ball on the left, cutting inside and hitting a perfectly executed shot into the far corner to make it 7-0.
After half time, we started just as we had the first half, with Ahmed getting his hat-trick. Some good build up play from the defence allowed Yaqoob (6S) to find a pocket of space and score his second goal. Shortly after, we decided to make a substitution and also change our shape, going with two strikers up front, which gave Oscar (6P) more defensive responsibilities in midfield. However, this did not stop Oscar (6S) from producing a fantastic strike from distance into the bottom corner. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, Daniel (6F) was positioned perfectly to score from distance. Conor (5H) scored his first goal for the school team with a close-range finish. The game was finished off with a perfect team goal with Sev (6S), Ahmed (6F) and Tem (6F) linking well to score his second.
Today’s performance and result in keeping a clean sheet would not have been possible without all the efforts of the defence, this including Matt (6S) and Rory (5S) whose defensive awareness and ability to create chances were pivotal. Also, to Charlie (6H) in goal, who we relied on to make a few saves today but his calmness on the ball and choice of pass were essential to the team.
Final Score… 13 – 0
Scorers : Ahmed x 3, Sev x 3, Tem x 2, Yaqoob x 2, Oscar x 1, Conor x 1, Daniel x 1
