Pupil assessments & parent consultation meetings

From Monday 6th January, all pupils will take part in our first assessment point of the academic year. This helps teachers review your child’s progress in reading, writing, and mathematics against national expectations.

When will results be available?
  • Results will be published on MCAS (My Child At School) from Thursday 23rd January at 9:00am. To view results:
    • Log in to MCAS.
    • Click Assessment in the left-hand menu or select ‘More’ from the dashboard.
How do we measure attainment and progress?
  •  Attainment descriptors used:
    • ​​​​​​​Well below (SS below 85)
    • Below (SS 85–94) 
    • At expected (SS 95–115) most pupils will be at this level
    • Above expected (SS 116+)

SS=Standardised Score, 100 is 'average' for age

  • Progress is shown as:
    • Less than expected
    • Expected
    • More than expected

Progress is measured from the end of the previous key-stage (End of Reception, or end of Year 2)

Nursery & Reception

Teachers in Nursery and Reception assess your child’s development across the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS):

  • Prime areas: Communication & Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social & Emotional Development.
  • Specific areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, Expressive Arts & Design.

Results will also be available on MCAS from 23rd January at 9:00am.

ARP & Pupils with Complex SEND

For children in the Additional Resource Provision (ARP) and some pupils with complex SEND, we use B Squared Connecting Steps to assess progress.

What is B Squared Connecting Steps?
It’s a specialist assessment framework designed for pupils with SEND. It tracks progress through:

  • Small, detailed steps across the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum.
  • Engagement areas: Attention, Communication, Interaction.
  • Developmental areas:
    • Communication
    • Functional Movement (fine and gross motor)
    • Making Connections (cognitive skills)
    • Self & Emotions
    • Sensory skills
  • Pathways: Belonging, Exploration, and Well-being.

Important: These results will not appear on MCAS. Teachers will share them:

  • Via email
  • During parent consultation meetings

Reception to Year 6, Including ARP

  • Monday 2nd February 7:40am-8.30am, and 3:40pm-7pm
  • Monday 9th February 7:40am-8.30am, and 3:40pm-7pm

Nursery

  • Ladybirds - Monday 23rd February 8.45am-4pm
  • Ladybirds – Tuesday 24th February 8.45am-4pm
  • Dragonflies – Wednesday 25th February 8.45am-4pm
  • Dragonflies – Thursday 26th February 8.45am-4pm
  • Dragonflies – Friday 27th February 8.45am-4pm
