The First Step in Our Residential Journey

For many children, the Year 3 Camp Out is one of the most exciting milestones of junior school life. As the first stage of Fielding's four-year residential programme, it provides children with a safe, supportive and memorable introduction to staying away from home.

Taking place on our own school field, the campout combines the excitement of a residential experience with the reassurance of a familiar environment. Children enjoy all the fun of camping with their friends while remaining in the heart of the Fielding community.

Building Confidence Close to Home

We know that spending a night away from home can feel like a big step, both for children and parents. By keeping the experience on site, children can begin developing the independence, resilience and confidence needed for future residential visits, knowing that school and family are still close by.

Year after year, we see children who arrive feeling nervous leave the following morning bursting with pride. Many describe the campout as one of their favourite memories of primary school and often refer back to it as they prepare for larger adventures in Years 4, 5 and 6.

What Will Children Be Doing?

Working with The Outdoors People, children take part in a wide range of outdoor activities designed to develop practical skills, teamwork and self-confidence.

Activities typically include:

• Bushcraft and outdoor survival skills
• Campcraft and practical outdoor challenges
• Team-building games
• Leadership activities
• Problem-solving tasks
• Communication and cooperation challenges
• Opportunities to develop independence and responsibility

Children camp overnight in tents with their friends and spend the evening enjoying the unique experience of sleeping under the stars on the Fielding field.

Supporting the Curriculum and Personal Development

While the campout is enormous fun, it is also an important part of our wider curriculum and personal development offer.

The experience helps children to:

• Develop resilience and perseverance.
• Build confidence and independence.
• Improve communication and teamwork skills.
• Learn to solve problems collaboratively.
• Strengthen friendships and sense of belonging.
• Develop leadership skills.
• Take responsibility for themselves and others.

These outcomes align closely with our school values of respect, resilience, empathy and reflection, helping children develop the character traits that will support them throughout their education.

The Year 3 Camp Out provides the foundation for the residential experiences that follow:

• Year 3: Camp Out on the school field
• Year 4: Hooke Court, Dorset
• Year 5: Isle of Wight Adventure Residential
• Year 6: Burgundy, France

Each visit builds progressively on the skills developed in the previous year, ensuring that every child feels prepared and supported throughout their residential journey.

Dates: Thursday 6th May - Friday 7th May 2027

Cost: £70

Booking opens: Friday 4th September 2026 at 9am via MCAS, secure your child's place with a £20 deposit by 25th Februray. 

We expect all children to take part and will work closely with families to ensure that finances are not a barrier to participation.

Before making any payment, please read our Residential Trip Terms and Conditions. Please note that we are unable to accept childcare vouchers or tax-free childcare vouchers towards the cost of residential visits and experiences.

Financial Support

We firmly believe that every child should be able to take part in our residential programme.

Pupil Premium Passport holders will have the full cost of the experience covered by the school. Families should contact Jane Peterson, Finance Manager, at finance@fielding.ealing.sch.uk to confirm their child's attendance. There is no need to book through MCAS, as this would generate a charge. Jane will add children to the trip register directly.

For families who may find the cost difficult to manage, support is available. The Governing Body's charging policy allows assistance for families receiving certain benefits, including (but not limited to) Universal Credit, Income Support and Income-Based Jobseeker's Allowance. We may also be able to offer alternative payment plans where needed.

If finances are a concern, please contact Mrs Haines confidentially. We never want cost to be a barrier to a child being able to participate in this important experience.

Further details about packing lists and the full itinerary will be shared closer to the trip. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please speak to your child's Year 4 teacher or Mrs Haines.
