Annual Parent Survey 2018 - Deadline 2nd February 9am. We need your views

What are our strengths?  Where might we need to improve?

Each year we conduct an annual survey to find out parents' views. Your views are important to us.  We add your views to our own evaluation enabling us to identify our strengths and areas for improvement.  The school is likely to face a real cut in funding from the government in the forthcoming financial year.  Therefore, knowing our strengths and being able to sharply focus our work on weaker areas is even more important than before.  We would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the survey by following this link:

Anonymous responses are possible.  However, whatever your views, it helps us to know who you are so that we can better understand and/or follow-up on any concerns raised.

Last year we received 421 responses from families, representing 623 pupils.  We would like an even stronger response this year. You told us that the things you most like about Fielding are:

  • Teachers, our staff team and the high quality of their teaching, including ‘inspirational’ and ‘enthusiastic’ adults, excellent learning experiences and the ambition to get the very best out of every child (176 comments);
  • Values-based education, including the care and compassion that all adults show to children, our welcoming, friendly ethos and ‘holistic’ approach (71 comments);
  • Opportunities for sport, music, teams, variety of clubs and specialist teaching (51 comments);
  • Outdoor space and environment, including the field and all of our facilities (56 comments);
  • The size of the school and organisation, including a ‘small school feel’ but all the opportunities and benefits of size (28 comments);

Parents would most like to change or improve:

  • Communication, especially the Laser calendar and wanting to know more about pupils’ learning (61 comments);
  • Clubs, including availability, booking arrangements and the Laser system (36 comments);
  • Playground behaviour and supervision (32 comments);
  • Homework, but a wide variety of views, ranging from some families wanting less or no homework to others wanting more (25 comments).

Following your feedback we have:

  • Reviewed the look and feel of Laser and the way we use it, including moving the school calendar to the website.
  • Sent your child's English and maths class books home each half-term so you can share your child's learning and next steps.
  • Increased the number of Specialist Clubs and spaces available for each year group, split the booking on Laser for each key-stage.
  • We have restructured our lunchtime supervision, moving away from traditional 'lunchtime supervisors' to playworkers who are known to the children.
  • We have improved the facilities for children during play and and lunch times, including play equipment, zoned areas and improvements in the lunch halls.

We are especially keen to hear about your views on potential changes to school meals and on future cost savings.

The survey will close on Friday 2nd February at 9am.
