  • Sunrise to Sunset huge success

Thu 24 Mar 2016 Mr Thomas

Fielding community raises just under £2500 for Sport Relief

The Sunrise to Sunset Football match full time whistle blew at 6.12pm last Friday and Mr Thomas and Mr Winn are nearly fully recovered. Thanks to the huge effort and fantastic support from everybody involved the day was a great success. Everybody at Fielding, staff, children and parents should feel extremely proud for taking part in the day and helping to raise £2443 for vulnerable children all around the world with Sport Relief.

A big thank you must be given to every single child from Year 1 to Year 6 who played at some point in the game. Another thank you and well done to Reception and Nursery who came out during the day to show their support and cheer on the teams.

Thank you to the hundreds of parents who came down to the school to cheer, donate and even play in the game. You were all brilliant and demonstrate what a great school community we have here at Fielding!

The biggest thanks must go to Tessa Bertram and Amanda Hodge who ran the whole day from the sidelines, keeping scores, taking photos, providing food and drink to the players. Without them the day wouldn't have ran as smoothly as it did.

Well done Fielding! Once again you should all be proud. Send in ideas for the next Fielding Sport Relief challenge on a postcard...

  • Year 3 English

    Thu 24 Mar 2016

This week in English, the Year 3 children have pulled together all of their work from this sequence of lessons to write their final draft of their newspaper articles. We have focused on the type of language that we need to use in our articles in order to ensure they are written using emotive language. To do this the children have analysed newspaper articles and identified technical vocabulary that the reporter has used to set the tone. The children were then able to use the language they had identified to edit and improve their own articles, helping to change the tone from narrative to emotive. Miss Allen, Year 3 Lead Teacher, commented, “It was clear that the children benefitted from reading other newspaper articles. They could then use them to up-level their own work which helped to change the tone of the articles. I was delighted to see the final drafts presented with such care, with such a high standard of writing.”

  • April Inclusion Drop-In

Tue 22 Mar 2016 Mrs Chadwick

    Drop-In specialist for April

Fielding Primary School runs a monthly Inclusion Drop-In service. This is usually on the first Thursday of each month, term dates permitting, and is held in the School House. The session takes place between 2-3pm and is open to all parents and carers with children at Fielding Primary.

The Drop-Ins provide an opportunity to talk to Mrs Chadwick, SENDCo, and Mrs Reehal, Learning Mentor. Mrs Chadwick, as SENDCo oversees the support provision for children who have special educational needs, to ensure they reach their full potential. Mrs Reehal, as Learning Mentor, offers support and guidance to children who may be experiencing barriers to their learning or are socially excluded.

Parents and Carers are provided with an opportunity to meet and discuss any concerns that they may have in an informal manner.

The Inclusion team are delighted to announce that starting in March, there will also be a specialist joining the Drop-In sessions, focusing on a particular topic.

Each specialist will explain the role they play in supporting and promoting learning, health and well-being and be available to answer any questions.

The Drop-In on Thursday 14th April will focus on autism, and we are delighted to welcome Dawn Clegg from Springallow school, ‘a school for pupils with autism’.

Please see the Inclusion Drop-In calendar for more details of future specialists.

We would be delighted to welcome any parents with specialist training relating to learning, health and well-being who would like to extend their knowledge to support other parents. Please contact Mrs Chadwick or Mrs Reehal.

    The Man on the Moon

Over the past few weeks the pupils have been enjoying learning about ‘The Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram. This week we have been planning and writing a newspaper article. We have concentrated on the layout of a newspaper, rhetorical questions and speech marks. The pupils have been trying to understand how and when we need to use speech marks. We first explored this through looking at newspaper articles and the effect the speech marks has on a piece of work. This has led to some very interesting quotes about Bob, The Man on the Moon. Mr Theobald,  2S, explained “It’s been excellent to see the transformation in the children’s work. At first they weren’t able to write in the style or use any of the features of a newspaper. However, they are now producing, editing and improving their work using the correct style and features.” This is showing the greater confidence the pupils have and their ability to learn new types of writing and then apply it.

  • British Brilliance and the Outlaw! - Year 4

Thu 17 Mar 2016 Mr. McConnachie

As the days grow longer and the Magnolias begin to bloom, British spring brings with it the shoots of budding brilliance. Year 4 are also experiencing this, as seeds of ‘Who Were the Early British Law Makers’ were planted at the beginning of this half term and have now budded into a full grown understanding of what justice and British Values are.

Year 4’s journey into understanding what it is to be British began by digging deep into 800 years of cruel and unusual punishments and the beginning of the Rule of Law with a close look at the Magna Carta, where the seeds were sown.  Individual liberty stems from this freedom and Norman Noble, Simon De Montforts’ first Parliament is born.  Growth of Democracy branches into the House of Commons, the House of Lords and with the Monarch’s fancy signature, new laws have been introduced through Westminster for generations, helping Britain evolve and bud into a multicultural society that prides itself on Tolerance and Mutual Respect.

Finally, the children’s journey through British legal evolution was consolidated with a trip to The Royal Courts of Justice.  Realisation flowers with the knowledge of how laws are upheld by the four levels of justice and an interactive experience served as the perfect way to witness how decisions and punishments are delivered through cases and trials.  The Trial of Robin Hood proved to be very popular with the public and to most of the children’s relief, justice prevailed as the jury’s decision to set Robin free due to inconclusive evidence was celebrated by all! His fight for freedom, mutual respect, tolerance towards others and justice for everyone in the land, all those years ago, was deeply rooted in British Values.
