  • Boys football team start off the year with 3rd place finish

    Fri 28 Sep 2018
Congratulations to the boys football team who played in the Featherstone football tournament yesterday and finished in 3rd place. The football on show from our boys was excellent today and many might say that we were the best footballing team there. Unfortunately you still have to win games to be crowned champions. Ultimately, the boys were happy to end up with bronze medals though and should be happy with their performances. Well done everyone!
  • New Trustees needed at PTFA AGM - Monday 1 October

    Thu 27 Sep 2018

    Dear parents,

First of all, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you for all your hard work and support. This year was a record breaking fundraising year. The PTFA raised an incredible £44,000, which is the highest amount raised in 24 years.

That money has paid for the outstanding facilities, trips and opportunities that our children all enjoy including £21,000 for the new kitchen garden, £7,000 for the nursery sandpit as well as schools trips, new library books etc.

Thanks to your constant support, Fielding’s facilities are the envy of other schools and we should be incredibly proud of the tireless efforts by our hardworking group of parents.

But unfortunately many of those dedicated members are now moving on and a number of PTFA trustees will stand down at the PTFA AGM on Monday 1 October.

We are looking for a new co-chair or vice-chair, a treasurer and two vice-treasurers and a secretary. These roles must be filled if we are to retain our charitable status (job specs attached).

There are also a number of new opportunities this year. We are launching 15 new roles including Events Coordinators, Class List Administrator, Eco Coordinator, Xmas Fair Coordinator, Summer Fair Coordinator, Designers, Stores Manager, and Communications Coordinator amongst others.

We know there are parents that work full or part-time and have considerable constraints on their time, but even a small amount of time or help would be beneficial. None of these roles require prior experience or skills, but if you do have a particular skill we would love to hear from you.

Even if you are unable to volunteer, please come along to show your support at our AGM on Monday 1 October at 7.30pm in the School Hall.

We would love to hear your ideas, feedback and suggestions on fundraising and how future revenue should be spent. It is also an opportunity to hear about some of the exciting new events we have planned.

As a result of the Data Protection rules, we made the change last year to ClassList as the principal way of communicating with parents.

We would encourage all parents to sign up to this so we can keep you up-to-date with the latest events. Through ClassList, we send out regular updates on PTFA activities at Fielding and the app also allows you to get to know fellow parents in your class.

We will shortly be launching early-bird ticket sales through ClassList so it really does pay to sign up.

To sign up visit: classlist.com/join/10WYAX7 and select your child’s class.

Thank you again for all your support, we couldn’t do it without you,

    Nolan and Chloe

  • Learning Continues At Home

Thu 27 Sep 2018 Jamie Lewis

Two years ago, Fielding’s home learning policy underwent some major changes. The children embraced these adaptations so well that routines have become firmly embedded and have not changed much since. With research showing that traditional style homework has very little impact on children of primary age, Fielding firmly believes children should take control and responsibility for their own work through a more creative route outside of school time. These beliefs underpin our home learning policy.

In order to provide a more consistent challenge for all children, half-termly creative home learning challenges will be set. These include a number of options to suit each family’s routines and all children are encouraged to produce pieces that are shown at the home learning showcase in school. Each year group will also invite parents in once a year to share this showcase. Please check the school calendar for more details about dates. Children have spoken about how much they enjoy showing their home learning at school, “It really lets me show what I’ve done and how much effort I have put in.” (Year 4 pupil).

    Routines

Children in Years 1-6 bring in their reading book and reading record every day. This allows teachers and children to use their reading books during lessons. Children should read at home every day and record any new or unfamiliar words in their reading record. In addition to this, Years 2-6 should bring in their spelling log book every day. It will have this week’s spellings written inside for practise at home. Fielding has also made the exciting leap into Times Table Rockstars, where children can earn point to buy better equipment for their online band members. If you require a password for this, please speak to your child’s class teacher.

In order to prepare children to the transition to High School, pupils in Years 5 and 6 will receive pages of a grammar work book, along with pages of a maths workbook to complete each week. Parents and children should mark this work together, reviewing errors and successes. The pages to be completed each will be communicated via the Year Group Noticeboard.

In Reception, children will be given two books each week and phonics sounds to practise will also be sent home once a week. Parents of reception children may find that extra learning has been provided if your child’s class teacher noted that more practise was needed or that your child is ready to be challenged even further.

With home learning a great time for children to release their creative side, whilst re-enforcing their learning in school, engagement from adults at home is essential. Let’s make learning at home fun and enjoyable!

  • Celebrating the European Day of Languages 2018

    Wed 26 Sep 2018 S.Mahvelati
Children across the school had the chance to celebrate their language learning experiences with their peers and teachers today. In Year 5 alone, we counted twenty-three different languages spoken across the year group including Danish, Polish, French, Hebrew, Spanish, Bosnian, Arabic, Turkish, German, Urdu, Armenian, Italian, Portuguese, Kosovan, Bulgarian, Japanese, Lithuanian, Persian, Russian, Hindu, Chinese Finnish, Ukrainian, Dutch, Chechen, Swedish and Swahili.  The highlight of the day was also a lovely French-themed lunch designed by our Year 5 pupils and prepared by our amazing catering team. We hope the children had an enjoyable and memorable day and are feeling particularly proud of their linguistic abilities today.
  • NEW PTFA EVENT: Sleeping Beauty Pantomime - 16 December 2018

    Wed 26 Sep 2018

OH NO WE'RE NOT...OH YES WE ARE!

For the first time, Fielding Primary School will host two performances of a touring Pantomime - Sleeping Beauty.

If you don't know, Sleeping Beauty is a gripping, traditional tale of romance, comedy, and good versus evil. This production is also brought right up to date with music, dancing, some unexpected twists in the story, and lots and lots of audience participation.

The two performances will take place on Sunday 16 December at 1pm and 4pm. The Fielding School Hall will be transformed with four different stage sets, LED lighting & PA system, and theatre quality costumes & props. Each performance will last two hours - which includes an interval.

Well, what are you waiting for? Get ready to book your tickets! Early-bird tickets for Sleeping Beauty will go on sale on Monday 1 October at 7am with the ticket link ONLY available via ClassList. Early-bird ticket price is £6.50 + £1 booking fee (adults & children are the same price). Early-bird tickets are only available until 11pm on Friday 12 October after which time they will increase to £8 per ticket (plus £1 booking fee).

Just make sure you are signed up to ClassList at classlist.com/join/10WYAX7.

For information: The PTFA runs its communication via the ClassList platform. This platform sends weekly updates on PTFA activities at Fielding, but also allows to you to get to know your fellow parents in your class (if you don't already!). It doesn't necessarily replace the class WhatsApp group - which is great for general chat - but sometimes the info can be overwhelming and important things get missed.

Once signed up to ClassList, you can review your settings on how regularly you want PTFA notifications and/or privacy details.

  • Houses needed for PTFA Halloween Trail

    Wed 26 Sep 2018

The PTFA are looking to run a Halloween Trail on Wednesday 31 October straight after school (3.30-4.15pm) However, to make this event happen we are looking for about six to eight houses that would be keen to decorate the front of their house with spooky props or decor.

Don't worry, we don't expect you to answer the door and provide gifts to the children - they would just look for an 'Alphabet Letter' somewhere at the front of the house and move to the next house.

Ideally the houses need to be in the closer streets to the school - e.g. Midhurst, Claygate, Wyndham, Northcroft, Ridley, Mayfield, Haslemere etc

There is a bonus of course in that your house will be ready for Halloween activities that evening for your children!

Please email fieldingPTFA@gmail.com if you want to nominate your house.

  • Keeping our site safe - bikes and scooters

    Tue 25 Sep 2018

We have recently carried out a school travel survey with children from Reception to Year 6, it is so encouraging to hear how many children walk, bike or scoot to school. Many using the provided bike and scooter racks that are located at various points around the site.

To avoid any accidents, when collecting or dropping off bikes and scooters at the beginning or end of the day, they must be walked.
