  • Complaints procedure

    Mon 29 Jan 2018 Peter Dunmall

    The Department for Education (DfE) requires all schools to publish their own complaints procedure.  The Governing Body has considered the latest advice from the DfE and adjusted our complaints procedure accordingly.

    Our complaints procedure is published in the Our School, Policies section of the school website.

    The complaints procedure continues to place greatest emphasis on resolving any concern or complaint informally and quickly.

  • Annual Parent Survey 2018 - Deadline 2nd February 9am. We need your views

    Sat 27 Jan 2018

    What are our strengths?  Where might we need to improve?

    Each year we conduct an annual survey to find out parents' views. Your views are important to us.  We add your views to our own evaluation enabling us to identify our strengths and areas for improvement.  The school is likely to face a real cut in funding from the government in the forthcoming financial year.  Therefore, knowing our strengths and being able to sharply focus our work on weaker areas is even more important than before.  We would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the survey by following this link:

    Anonymous responses are possible.  However, whatever your views, it helps us to know who you are so that we can better understand and/or follow-up on any concerns raised.

    Last year we received 421 responses from families, representing 623 pupils.  We would like an even stronger response this year. You told us that the things you most like about Fielding are:

    • Teachers, our staff team and the high quality of their teaching, including ‘inspirational’ and ‘enthusiastic’ adults, excellent learning experiences and the ambition to get the very best out of every child (176 comments);
    • Values-based education, including the care and compassion that all adults show to children, our welcoming, friendly ethos and ‘holistic’ approach (71 comments);
    • Opportunities for sport, music, teams, variety of clubs and specialist teaching (51 comments);
    • Outdoor space and environment, including the field and all of our facilities (56 comments);
    • The size of the school and organisation, including a ‘small school feel’ but all the opportunities and benefits of size (28 comments);

    Parents would most like to change or improve:

    • Communication, especially the Laser calendar and wanting to know more about pupils’ learning (61 comments);
    • Clubs, including availability, booking arrangements and the Laser system (36 comments);
    • Playground behaviour and supervision (32 comments);
    • Homework, but a wide variety of views, ranging from some families wanting less or no homework to others wanting more (25 comments).

    Following your feedback we have:

    • Reviewed the look and feel of Laser and the way we use it, including moving the school calendar to the website.
    • Sent your child's English and maths class books home each half-term so you can share your child's learning and next steps.
    • Increased the number of Specialist Clubs and spaces available for each year group, split the booking on Laser for each key-stage.
    • We have restructured our lunchtime supervision, moving away from traditional 'lunchtime supervisors' to playworkers who are known to the children.
    • We have improved the facilities for children during play and and lunch times, including play equipment, zoned areas and improvements in the lunch halls.

    We are especially keen to hear about your views on potential changes to school meals and on future cost savings.

    The survey will close on Friday 2nd February at 9am.

  • Reception - School Pupil Tracker logins

    Wed 24 Jan 2018 Reception Team
    Due to a number of parents who have requested login details to access School Pupil Tracker the school office has kindly printed these out and we will circulate these on Thursday 25th January. Parents will find the login details in their child's book bag.  School Pupil Tracker is used across the school to give parents access to key information about their child. In reception you will be able to check your child's achievements in school along with viewing the learning journeys that focus on the prime areas of learning. Also the end of year school reports will be accessed through this secure online site.  Parents whose children went to Fielding Nursery and already have access to School Pupil Tracker will find their updated login details also in book bags.
  • Fielding are beaten finalists in Brentford FC Kids Cup

    Tue 23 Jan 2018

    Fielding took the boys football team to the Brentford FC Kids Cup yesterday with the hope of lifting a trophy. The boys were excellent and could barely be faulted all day. We got all the way to the final but then lost 2-1 against Fairhome. Well done all 8 boys, you represented the school amazingly well and should be very proud.

    Check out the PE page for a full write up of the day.

  • Composers Assembly

    Mon 22 Jan 2018

    Our next Music assembly is exclusively for composers.  It takes place on the first Monday after the half-term break, BUT CHILDREN NEED TO SIGN UP BY FRIDAY 26th JANUARY (this coming Friday).

    In order successfully to sign up, performers must be able to play their composition to Mr Mappin.  Compositions should be at least one minute long and should feature original material (NOT arrangements of an existing piece of music).  Children who have written a song should aim to perform it with some kind of accompaniment rather than a capella.  Instrumental pieces can be performed solo or in a group.

    Children do not need to have written down the composition, but it must have been planned out and worked through, rather than improvised.

    Children wanting to perform MUST SIGN UP THIS WEEK and must have the composition in a state where it can be performed to Mr Mappin.

  • Girls football team claim bronze at Featherstone

    Fri 19 Jan 2018

    The girls football team played some excellent football yesterday at Featherstone High School to win bronze medals in a competition attended by 19 schools. Over the course of the day the girls scored an amazing 19 goals and conceded 0. Sadly this wasn't enough to win the day as we were held to a 0-0 draw in the semi finals and lost on penalties. Still, big well done girls. Heads up and lets get ready for the next game.

  • February Holiday club, make time to play...

    Tue 16 Jan 2018

    There are less than four weeks left at school before the children break for February half term week. The childcare team have planned an assortment of exciting activities and days out for the children to enjoy. Using the children’s feedback we have increased the cooking sessions, introduced more team games and oodles of messy play and arts and craft. Click here for programme.

    The trips out remain extremely popular with this in mind on Thursday children will take part in a guided stadium tour to go behind the scenes at one of the most historic football clubs in London. This offers a unique opportunity to see behind-the-scenes at the home of Queens Park Rangers like never before! With unprecedented access we will follow in the footsteps of sporting heroes, through areas including the tunnel, home & away changing rooms, pitch side, media centre and the trophy display area.

    What will your children be doing during half term? Bookings open now on Laser.

    For your information all holiday dates are available on the school website, please note holiday club will not be running during May half term, this year there will be two weeks during Easter.

    Starting February half term week an adhoc fee will be introduced for bookings made after midday on the Friday before holiday club starts, please see here for more information.

  • Laser cashbooks and payment for trips, music and events

    Mon 15 Jan 2018

    As we are approaching the end of the school financial year we have taken a thorough review of payments made for trips, music and events through Laser and WorldPay. Each child's cashbook has been checked. We fully acknowledge some of the frustrations with Laser and cashbooks that parents have encountered. There have been two main causes:

    • user error on our side where on occasion events have been entered more than once
    • a technical glitch where items placed in cashbooks had not been included in calculations.

    We have now made the appropriate changes and updates, this means the balance on your child's 'music, trips and events' cashbook may have changed.  Please log-in to Laser to check. If you have an outstanding balance please make payment by 5th February.
