  • Classes and teachers for 2020/21

    Fri 26 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Our working plan is that school will open fully to all pupils in September because we have not been told otherwise by the government. We continue to wait to hear the government's plans for primary schools.

    Please see classes and teachers for the next school year, below. As last year, each class will keep the same letter name, for example, Class 1P becomes 2P, 2P becomes 3P, 4P becomes 5P and so on. Pupils stay in the same class group as they move through the school, building firm friendships.

    We welcome 3 new teachers to our team:

    • Hannah Apperley. Mrs Apperley will work part-time and share teaching a class with Mrs Hopkins.
    • Christoper Perez-Diaz. Mr Perez-Diaz starts his teaching career with us, having worked successfully in other sectors before teaching.
    • Megan Thomas. Miss Thomas will work in class with Miss Allen, before covering the class when Miss Allen starts her maternity leave. Miss Allen's baby is due in October and she is expecting to be away from school for most of the school year.  We intend Miss Thomas to be the main class teacher but maternity plans can change.

    Reception joiners will receive a welcome letter showing class and teacher by Monday evening.

    All parents

    Once key worker parents have booked their slots we will release all other slots on MCAS for booking. You will be asked to book to one bubble. You will be able to check availability in all bubbles before you book. We anticipate booking to open from the 10th July.

  • Parenting support and guidance

    Thu 25 Jun 2020 N Reehal
    During these challenging times, it can be useful to have a look at some of the websites offering support and guidance to parents/carers. Please have a look at the following.
  • Move up arrangments

    Thu 25 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    'Move-up' morning is cancelled this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Teachers want to welcome their pupils. Instead:

    • Reception joiners video for parents, Fielding YouTube channel, "Starting School 2020-21";
    • original class teachers for this school year, 2019/20, will create a 'good-bye' video;
    • new class teachers for 2020/21, will create a 'welcome' video;
    • pupils can also watch a virtual tour style video of their new year group area, showing entrance doors, classroom spaces, toilets and anything else that teachers think pupils might want to know;
    • all pupils, in school or at home, can write to their new teacher. Guidance on what to include will be published on Year Group Noticeboards for those at home. Pupils at home can send to current class teacher who will forward on to the new teacher for them.

    Videos will be published on our YouTube channel from 3rd July. Links from Year Group Noticeboards.

    We have changed our arrangements because we must continue to minimise the risk of infection in our school. The health and safety of our staff and pupils remains our highest priority. This means:

    • teachers and pupils in school cannot switch 'bubbles';
    • teachers at home need to stay away from school to keep safe;
    • pupils at home cannot return to school because there is no more classroom space.
  • Plans for childcare, supporting parents back to work

    Thu 25 Jun 2020 Karen Esprit

    Plans to re-open childcare and specialist clubs are being worked on. Specialist clubs will return where government guidelines can be maintained to keep children and adults as safe as possible. Some clubs may not be able to return immediately. We are talking to our providers and will re-open when the time is right for everyone:

    • Specialist club progamme published by Friday 10 July
    • Booking will open during the summer holidays, from Monday 10 August
    • Bookings will swap from Laser to Bromcom.
    • Childcare and clubs offer maybe smaller than previous terms.

    The childcare team remains the same professional, dedicated team, ready to provide the very best care for your child. We have all enjoyed hearing the school coming back to life, welcoming some pupils back to school.

    Once the government shares plans for how schools reopen in September this will inform the level of childcare service we are able to offer.

    Please check that you can log in to Bromcom’s MyChildatSchool (MCAS) using a desktop computer or the MCAS app.

  • Keeping safe in the sun, for those children attending school

    Mon 22 Jun 2020 Clare Haines

    Hot weather expected!

    While we welcome the warm sunny weather it is important to keep children safe in the sun, please help us to do this by making sure:

    • your child comes to school each day with a water bottle, they can refill it as many times as needed throughout the day,
    • teach your child to apply suncream
    • supervise your child while they apply suncream to all exposed areas in the morning before school
    • if you would like your child to apply suncream during the day please clearly label it and put it in their bag, let their teacher know
    • provide a wide brimmed sunhat (and sunglasses) for play and lunchtimes.

  • Staff update for September

    Fri 19 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Promotions, leavers and joiners

    Fielding has a full team of permanent teaching staff ready for the start of the new school year.

    New Year Team Leaders

    Congratulations to Mrs Bumby and Miss Tsoukala who have been promoted to become Year Team Leaders.

    Teacher leavers

    At the end of this term, Mrs Ghoul leaves to work closer to home; Miss Jhurree leaves for a better work/life balance to meet her own personal circumstances. Both have made a significant contribution to our school and will be missed by colleagues, pupils and parents alike.

    Maternity leave

    Congratulations to Miss Allen who is pregnant. She will start her maternity leave in October and is likely to be away from school for most of the year.

    Teacher joiners and changes

    Mrs Robinson becomes full-time having worked part-time with us. We welcome Hannah Apperley, an experienced teacher to the part-time vacancy. Mrs Apperley will job-share a class with Mrs Hopkins.

    Christopher Perez-Diaz joins us to start his teaching career. Mr Perez-Diaz has previously worked in the commercial sector before deciding to teach.

    Megan Thomas will cover Miss Allen's maternity leave. Miss Allen and Miss Thomas will start the school year, teaching together in the same class.

    September classes

    We are planning for a full return to school for all pupils from September because we have not been told otherwise by the government. Sirius and Canopus class group 'bubbles' will then return to the full class.

    Pupils' classes, teachers and year group teams will be published closer to the end of this school year.

  • Your child's annual report ready to view

    Mon 15 Jun 2020 Clare Haines

    Your child’s Annual Report is available to view on My Child at School (MCAS). It can be viewed in the App or the desktop version of MCAS. The report will appear in the ‘reports’ section of MCAS below any other reports your child might already have.

    Your child’s report has been written by the class teacher they had for the Autumn and Spring terms. Teachers have reported on the first two terms of this year only. Attendance has been reported up to the 20th March 2020 (attendance is not reported for Nursery aged pupils).

    Please read our assessment update to find our how your child's teacher has measured attainment and progress.

    Please note, due to the change in our class structure, for children in Reception, Year 1, Year 6 and those registered for key worker care, your child's new class teacher and class will appear on the report. Children in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5, if your child's class teacher has been redeployed to another class, your child's class teachers name will not appear on their report.

    Please see the latest assessment update for more information and FAQs.

  • Government postpones school re-opening to all

    Thu 11 Jun 2020 Peter Dunmall

    Gavin Williamson, Secretary of State for Education, announced that the government is not able to welcome all primary children back to school for a full month before the summer, as intended. We were one of the first schools in Ealing to re-open to pupils in Reception, Year 6 and Year 1 because we anticipated opening to all. We are disappointed to hear this announcement.

    The government has asked schools that have the capacity to bring back more children—in smaller class sizes—to do so if they are able to before the summer holidays:

    We are not able to welcome back any more pupils because:

    • every suitable classroom space is being used for Reception, Year 1, Year 6 pupils and for the care of children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable. There is no more classroom space available.
    • every member of staff who is available to work is teaching a class group ‘bubble’. Several teaching assistants have kindly ‘stepped-up’ to teach classes. All other members of staff must work from home because they are vulnerable or shielding someone in their household. There are no more members of staff available to teach.

    We are looking after over 90 children of key-workers and those who are vulnerable each day. We are one of the largest providers of care for key-workers in Ealing. The government and local authority have told schools to prioritise this care. Numbers have increased each day and we are now very close to our maximum capacity.

    The government and local authority have told schools to re-open to pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. Schools are expected to provide full-time education for these pupils. Scientific evidence shows that part-time provision is believed to increase risks of transmitting the coronavirus infection:

    Safety of our pupils and staff is our highest priority. Our parents of pupils in Nursery, Year 2, 3, 4 & 5 have many different views. We had alternative plans too. We thought about offering all pupils blended, part-time learning in school with learning at home, based on our constellations or house / teams. As a local authority maintained school, we are not prepared to deviate from government and local authority expectations when scientific evidence does not support this.

    Teachers who must work from home continue to provide support to pupils in Years 2, 3, 4 & 5. Several are supporting more than one class. Parents have mixed views about the school's approach. We are doing as much as we can.

    We cannot change or increase the pupils who attend school or our learning at home offer unless the government changes its expectations for primary schools.

    We need to know the government’s strategic plans for September for schools. We are currently planning to re-open as normal in September because we have not been told otherwise. Behind the scenes we are beginning to develop use of Microsoft Teams so that we are better placed if pupils do not return to school in September or if learning is disrupted during the Autumn Term.
