  • Kitchen Garden Diary

Thu 24 May 2018 Ellie Lock

The Kitchen Garden was buzzing with activity today - RS had a fantastic gardening session complete with treasure hunt, the timber arrived to build a giant raised bed outside the Garden Cloche, and the chickens got some new bedding, which they immediately started kicking all over the place in their own treasure hunt for insects.

With so much going on, we're launching a Kitchen Garden Diary, which will be filled with photos of gardening lessons and articles written by the children.

We're growing as much produce as we can for the Cookery lessons - if anyone has surplus plants from their garden or allotment, we would love them to help kickstart the first cookery lessons after half term. Just pop them beside the Kitchen Garden fence and we'll find them a lovely new home. You can find the Kitchen Garden Diary here:

  • PTFA - Your Child Needs Help - with scarecrows

    Thu 24 May 2018

With the new allotments built within the school grounds, it will be important to ensure that birds do not come along and eat the fruits of the pupils labour this summer. That is why the PTFA will be running the very first Scarecrow Competition & Parade.

We are looking for pupils to build a scarecrow over the next few weeks and enter into our competition which will see the six best scarecrows adorn the allotment plot....in full view of the rest of the school.

With half term nearly upon us, why not take this opportunity to help your child build a scarecrow. Clear out some of your old clothes, utilise the free hessian sacks offered by The Fields Coffee Shop, collect grass cutting, rags or wood chip for the stuffing and away you go! We'll also be running a scarecrow making workshop during the Summer Picnic.

Pupils can bring in their scarecrows anytime from Monday 4 June and they will be displayed in the Scarecrow Parade until the Summer Fair. Judging will take place at the Summer Fair with winners announced at 3pm on Saturday 30 June – hopefully with the Mayor of Ealing! If you have a front garden why not use the scarecrows to promote Fair by hanging poster off, otherwise bring them within the safe confines of school grounds.

Entry forms, judging criteria and hints & tips are available

  • PTFA - Changes to communication

    Thu 24 May 2018
Important changes to data protection law are coming into force on 25 May which will affect how your personal data is handled. The PTFA takes your privacy seriously and we have our own privacy policy, which can be found below. .
The holding of your personal email addresses by class reps will no longer be compliant with data protection law and we will be asking class reps to delete all personal data they currently hold, such as email addresses and contact lists. You will no longer be able to receive emails from class reps.
In order to keep you informed of PTFA activities, we have decided to use a new platform called Classlist which we can use to communicate news and fundraising events in a secure and legally compliant way. You will need to register on Classlist in a few simple steps and you can also download their app. You will be able to control what notifications you receive from Classlist and therefore, the PTFA.
We shall shortly be sending out emails inviting you to join Fielding PTFA Classlist site. Please let us know if you do not want to receive this invitation.

More information is available at www.classlist.com including the Privacy Notice, which explains how personal information is managed and protected. You can also join your school's Classlist immediately here; classlist.com/join/LD999S8

Please be aware that for reasons of security we will also be switching to Classlist’s email system. This is technical change and will not otherwise affect how we use your personal data.  It will apply to all parents including those who decide not to join Classlist.

Class reps will continue to play a role in informing parents of school-related news, including PTFA news and fundraising efforts. They may do this through Whatsapp or Messenger groups, but these will not, and have never been, official PTFA channels of communication. You are free to choose whether or not to be part of those groups.
All the latest PTFA news will continue to appear on the Fielding Primary School website.
If you have any questions please email us at fieldingptfa@gmail.com.

  • Reception Cookery Sessions

    Wed 23 May 2018

With the excitement of the Gardening and Cooking sessions beginning for Key stage 1 and Key stage 2 after half term we thought it was important that similar opportunities were provided for our younger children.

Starting in the Autumn term our new reception children will have scheduled afternoon sessions each half term in the school kitchen preparing and cooking a range of different dishes.  This will support the Early Years curriculum and provide opportunities in the aspects of learning of Health and Self-Care, Maths, Moving and Handling and Understanding the World.  We will also make links with our new Reception garden that will be ready to use in the Autumn term.

Some important things for you to know:

    • Children's health care plans need to be updated in detail on Laser as teachers will check these carefully for food allergies and intolerances when planning food preparation and will ensure certain ingredients are not used and that procedures are put in place to avoid cross-contamination where needed.
    • Before the end of the school year the current  reception classes will have an introductory lesson in the school kitchen in preparation for their Gardening and Cooking lessons in Year 1.
    • From the Autumn Term, to support the effective planning of the lessons, and to enable us to provide the best possible opportunities for all pupils, in-line with our Charging Policy a voluntary contribution of £4 (payable via Laser) will be requested for each child for each half term. This will ensure teachers can buy ingredients needed to supplement fresh ingredients provided by the school garden. Please remember to add the charge to your cashbook.
    • Also from the Autumn Term pupils will also be asked to bring to school, on their allocated cooking day, a clearly labelled container. Pupils will then be able to bring home some/all of the food they have prepared at school to share with their families and friends.
