Here's an extract from the letter they sent us today:
"Dear Gardeners of Fielding Primary School,
Congratulations on completing Level 5 of our School Gardening Awards! We are delighted that you are now a Five Star Gardening School."
This is the highest award the RHS gives a school garden - and every child who has gardening and cooking lessons has contributed to Fielding's success. Three cheers all round!
This is also a good time to thank the many parents and carers who have supported the Kitchen Garden in its first year - by raising money through the PTFA, volunteering, visiting on our garden open days, donating pots, plants and eggboxes, and filling your children with enthusiasm for gardening.
Watch this space for news of the next garden open day, more plants for sale, and our summer volunteer list. Latest Kitchen Garden news here.
The Gardening Club has been super busy this term sowing flower and vegetable seeds with weekly watering and weeding. The Club wanted the garden to look its best not just for the school to enjoy but so it could look good for the yearly flower competition run by Cultivate Ealing. The judges came last Friday to look around the garden, luckily it was a beautiful sunny day so all the flowers were out. 12 enthusiastic children from Gardening Club showed them around the garden and told them about the things they do in the club, like going on bug and snail hunts. There are a number of bug hotels in the garden from 5 stars to 2 stars and even a bug hospital so catering to every bugs needs! The Club will be harvesting potatoes in a couple weeks time.
It’s a massive spectacle to see the Big Top on the field, show is themed on “The Greatest Showman”, so make sure your kids don’t miss out on what will be the talk of the school in the final week of term.
We recognise how lucky we are to have the opportunity to host a Circus in our field and have now opened up ticket sales on both Monday and Tuesday nights to other local families at Oaklands Primary School, Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School, Little Ealing Primary School, Lionel Primary School, St Marks Primary School. Competition for tickets will now increase - so get your tickets now!
Happy’s Circus is a professional (no animals) 2 hour performance including a 30 minute interval. They feature amazing International artists including acrobats, aerialists, speciality acts, magic and the ever popular Happy’s Circus clowns and much, much more!
There’s still approx 30 tickets left for the Sunday performance. This performance will start at 2pm with admission to the ‘big top’ from 1.30pm. The school grounds will be open from 12pm and food and drink will be available, so why not come down early and enjoy the atmosphere.
The Monday performance will start at 6pm (finish time is 8pm), with entry into the ‘big top’ from 5.30pm. The grounds will be open from 5pm and again food and drink will be available to purchase before the show and during the interval. As it’s the last week of term, hopefully a slightly later night than normal for some of the children won’t prove too tricky!
Tickets are £10 per person (under 2's sitting on parents laps do not require a ticket) with a booking fee of 50p per ticket. All children will need to be accompanied by an adult in the big top.
All of our children have been busy preparing for this years Sports Days and the big days are nearly here. The schedule for each class is shown in the images below so have a look at when your children are competing in certain events if you can't stay for the whole day.
This week in PE children are confirming within their constellations who is representing them in each event. There are 4 events this year that everybody competes in and 4 events which are nominated. The 4 that everybody competes in are the sprint, 300m, javelin and shotput. In the long jump and high jump events, 1 boy and 1 girl will represent their constellation and in the mile and relay, 2 boys and 2 girls will represent their constellation. Children make the decisions about who competes in each event themselves within their constellation with a small amount of guidance from teachers. Children are encouraged to allocate events fairly amongst the team but to also think about which events are best suited to different children within the constellation to try to score maximum points across all events.
Remember that during Sports Week there will be no PE lessons and some year groups will be doing their Sports Day on a different day to their usual PE day. Check below if you are unsure. Please also remember to send children to school with reusable water bottles to ensure they get enough to drink as well as appropriate sun protection.

During this year, Ofsted consulted schools on a new inspection framework. This framework is due to be used from September 2019 and includes some key changes for schools across the country. Schools are now encouraged to put the wider curriculum to the forefront of its learning. This is done through a clear learning intent, a solid strategy for implementation and an agreed way of measuring the curriculum’s impact.
During the course of this year, key leaders and teacher representatives from each year group have been carefully devising a new model for Fielding. This model allows teachers to focus on learning that is most relevant for children at our school; identifying important events and people that have shaped this community, whilst still meeting the requirements laid out in The National Curriculum.
Based on a thorough bed of academic research, alterations to Fielding’s curriculum will enable children to learn key concepts through different Learning Challenges. There is a keen focus on the vocabulary that children acquire throughout their time at primary school as this is the key to gaining more knowledge about the world around them and on their early reading skills that allow children to explore everything that interests them.
The curriculum has been specifically designed to foster early reading and thoroughly embed key writing and mathematical skills in Key Stage One, allowing children to independently interact with a broader, richer curriculum in Key Stage Two.
In order to support the collection of high level vocabulary, Fielding’s PTFA have kindly agreed to donate nearly £8000 for a library subscription. As part of this, each class will be provided with a range of high-quality books to support learning and teaching throughout each challenge. Where appropriate, costumes and artefacts will be provided encouraging children to have first-hand experiences and get into role as famous characters.
Further details of Fielding’s curriculum will be published at the end of the academic year along with our curriculum intent.
We are very pleased to tell you that our teaching team is not changing for next academic year with the exception of Miss Polomis who will be leaving us due to relocation.
Please see below for class teacher information for next academic year. As last year each class will keep the same letter name, e.g 1P will become 2P, 2P will become 3P, 4F will become 5F etc.
Pupils will have an opportunity to meet and work with their new class teacher during our Move Up Morning on Friday 28th June.
We would also like to congratulate Miss Timmins on her forthcoming wedding. Miss Timmins will be known as Mrs Bumby.
