14-18 November Anti-Bullying week 2022

Next week (14th-18th November) marks the beginning of Anti-bullying week which is, this year, focusing on the theme, ‘Reach out.’ This theme came about following consultation with teachers and pupils by the Anti-Bullying Alliance which coordinates Anti-Bullying Week every year in England and Wales. Teachers and children wanted a theme that empowered them to do something positive to counter the harm and hurt that bullying causes. Anti-Bullying Week will remind everyone whether it’s in school, at home, in the community or online, to reach out and show each other the support we need.

On Monday, key stage 2 pupils will take part in a live BBC Teach Lesson which will highlight some of the issues around bullying. Teachers will also lead Phase assemblies and class circle times during the week with a focus on Anti-bullying. The school’s Anti-Bullying Action group (led by 5 key adults in the school, including Phil Kennedy, Leader of Play, Miss Whaley, Miss Watson, Miss Ellis and Narinder Reehal, Learning Mentor) will also launch ‘Catching kindness’ leaves. These leaves will be made available to pupils in classrooms and in the playground for pupils to complete when they experience another child being kind to them. Playground leaves will be sorted and delivered to classes and in classrooms, teachers will present the leaves to the chosen pupils to celebrate the kindness that has been shown.

We are very excited to announce that 6 pupils from Years 5 and 6 have been selected to be Fielding’s first ‘Anti-bullying Ambassadors’ and will be attending Brentside Primary Academy on Wednesday 16th November for Anti-Bullying Ambassador training. Fielding Primary School have partnered with the Diana Award to provide this opportunity.

Following the training, the children involved will work within school with the Anti-Bullying Action group on the following initiatives:

  • Promote Anti-Bullying within the school
  • Support pupils within the school
  • Help to train other Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Further information on the training provided is available on the Diana Award Anti-Bullying website https://www.antibullyingpro.com/
