Fielding
Primary School and Nursery
Over the next few weeks children will begin on their new learning journeys, following a robust and bespoke curriculum, which meets the needs of the National Curriculum with a cross-curricular and creative approach. This curriculum is specifically tailored to meet the needs of our children and combines international, national and local learning challenges, enabling children to become well-rounded learners, active citizens and curious individuals.
The Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculum is designed with progression, achievement and mastery of skills at its core. As children move up the school, the skills they gain are revisited, consolidated and built-upon, in order for them to achieve mastery across the National Curriculum, rooted in a wide-range of interesting and imaginative contexts. All children will begin a learning challenge with a WOW – a hook to get them engaged, and will end the learning journey with a reflection task. This allows learning to be cyclical and gives children the opportunity to evaluate their understanding.
Assessment of the skills accomplished by pupils will be tracked against National Curriculum outcomes, with these grids being published on to the website before half term, for your information.
Assistant Head of Upper Phase, and Curriculum leader, Ms Biedul explained the decision to move towards the Fielding Learning Challenge: “Subjects are linked cohesively, giving meaning and purpose to pupils’ learning. Opportunities to extend pupils’ reading, writing and mathematical skills through other subjects are utilised regularly and effectively. The Curriculum addresses pupils’ learning needs well by providing frequent opportunities for problem solving and skills development.”
Each year group will have their curriculum published on the website, with curriculum overviews published prior to the start of the new learning challenge, so that you can familiarise yourself with the learning your child will be covering.
Analysis and evaluation of the Fielding Learning Challenge Curriculum will be ongoing and any adjustments will be communicated in due course.
Head teacher, Peter Dunmall remarked: “Having a curriculum that reflects the specific needs of our pupils will improve pupil outcomes, especially when underpinned by the teaching and sharing of values and Mind Up.”
Fortnightly, we will be sharing curriculum success and outcomes in a news article, so please keep an eye out on the website.
