📣 Fielding Primary – Maths Week London 2025 Recap!

We’ve just wrapped up an incredible week of mathematical magic at Fielding as part of Maths Week London 2025 (23rd June-27th June 2025)! The school was alive with numbers, shapes, patterns, and problem-solving from Reception to Year 6. Here's a quick look at what the week included:

🗓️ What Happened This Week?

  • Daily playground challenges: From shape hunts to estimation stations and problem-solving relays.
  • Library maths zones: Children explored 3D shapes, measured distances using cubes, and tackled real-world maths problems.
  • Soft start activities: Each morning began with engaging maths tasks to get brains buzzing.
  • Computing sessions: Pupils explored Purple Mash’s Maths Week London activities and competed in the TTRS London Rocks Tournament.
  • Story time maths: Year 1 enjoyed a maths-themed story session with The Great Pet Sale.
  • Creative class challenges: Every class designed a maths-based playground game for our whole-school competition.
  • Celebration dance party: We ended the week with a Maths-a-thon Boogie—a musical celebration of maths through movement, pattern, and rhythm

🎮 Problem Solving Playground Competition – Winners!

After much deliberation, Phil and Mrs Hodge have selected the Top 3 winning entries (in no particular order):

  1. 1P – Untitled: A fast-paced gathering game with a time limit—teamwork and speed are key!
  2. 3P – “What’s the Equation Mr/Miss Maths?”: A fun, fast-paced game where quick thinking and accurate answers help you race to the finish!
  3. 5H – Fully Costed Playground Design: A creative and practical approach to designing a maths-based playground.

Special Mentions

  • 5S – Uno Game
  • 5P – Playground Design with Expenses and Budgeting

These games showed fantastic creativity, problem-solving, and real-world maths application. The top 3 will become part of our permanent playground games!

🎉 Maths-a-thon Boogie!

To celebrate the success of the week, we ended with a giant dance party—the Maths-a-thon Boogie!
With music inspired by numbers, shapes, patterns, position, and direction, plus tracks from our very own TTRS platform, it was the perfect way to send Maths Week off with a bang.
And yes—staff joined in too! 💃🕺

💬 A Final Thank You

Thank you to all the staff, pupils, and families who helped make Maths Week London such a success. The children were full of math-thusiasm, and we heard more than once:
“I wish it was Maths Week every day!

Here’s to keeping the love of maths alive all year round!
