Parents stop scrolling and start reading

Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, urges parents to swap scrolling with reading as she launches a National Year of Reading for 2026 to boost children's literacy and life chances.

The Education Secretary is calling on parents to lead by example and make reading a daily habit to help reverse the decline in reading for pleasure, to help give children the best start in life.

Let's take a moment to reflect on our own habits. How often do our pupils see adults enjoying reading from a book rather than scrolling on a device. Could you be a better role model and adjust your own reading habits?
