COVID safe new look sports events to replace Sports Day

Sports Day this year has a new look! Our usual athletics style Sports Days which we run in KS2 will now take place across a number of weeks after half term in PE lessons. This means that for the first 3 weeks in PE, children in KS2 will compete in 2 events each and earn points for their constellation as they attempt to be crowned this years Constellation Cup Champions.

As we will be competing in our athletics events within PE lessons it allows us to give our Sports Days a new look, with a more traditional feel. Sports Days will now consist of familiar favourites such as the sack race, egg and spoon race and the space hopper race. We are excited about this change to our sports days but also sad to say that other changes have had to be made for this year to ensure that we keep our school community safe. Sports Days will now take place in year group bubbles rather than across a whole key stage in an effort to ensure the field is less busy and we are able to keep class bubbles separate as they rotate around events.

Due to the DfE guidelines for schools we are unable to invite family and friends to spectate this year  We know this will be disappointing for some parents. As these sports events are during the school day, they are subject to DfE guidance and expectations which at the time of writing is different to the Government's roadmap (this is different again to the rules that govern events hosted by the PTFA, a charitable organisation, where parents assess their own level of risk for their own family).

Please have a look at the timetable below to see when your child will be taking part in their Sports Day during Sports Week and ensure they come to school wearing PE kit on that day. We know that the children would love to have family and friends cheering them on as they usually do but appreciate your understanding in the reasons why that can’t happen this year.

*Information about Nursery Sports Day will follow shortly*
