Fielding win Featherstone Kurling competition

On Thursday 20th January, Fielding took 2 teams to Villiers High School to compete in this years New Age Kurling competition. New Age Kurling is in the indoor version of Curling, the Winter Olympic sport played on ice where players try to glide stones closer to a target than the opposing team. We had a Year 5&6 team in the upper KS2 competition and a Year 3 team in the lower KS2 competition. Both teams were excellent and at the end of the day we were very proud to see our Year 3 team crowned champions in the lower KS2 competition.

One of our Year 6 Kurling team, Yahya, was asked to go home and write up a report of the day. Thank you Yahya, here it is...

'I was selected with other pupils in the school to represent Fielding in a Kurling competition against other schools in the local area and I have been chosen to describe the experience. We travelled by minibus to Villiers High School where the competition was held.

In the Kurling competition we played 5 games, 3 games in the first half and then 2 in the second half.

There were two separate competitions, Year 3 in one competition and Year 5 and 6 in the other competition. In the Year 5 and 6 competition, in the first half we tied 1 and lost 2 games. In the second half we tied 1 and won 1 game.

After the first half, the Year 5 and 6 team were placed 3rd in Group B. It was split into 2 groups, A and B, but in the overall scoring at the end of the competition the Year 5 and 6 team were placed in 5th place. The Year 3 team were brilliant and came 1st in their competition and won gold medals and a trophy. The trophy now goes in the trophy cabinet at Fielding Primary School.

Fielding Primary School is a very great school because of the competitions they're competing in, which gives students the opportunity to try something new such as Kurling.'
