Routine safety checks show that the pirate ship in the main school sandpit needs to be replaced. Upright support timbers are showing signs of rot.

 

The pirate ship is closed to pupils. We are waiting for contractors to demolish it. The sandpit around the pirate ship is safe for pupils to use.

 

Our playground equipment is inspected by playground safety experts regularly. Our latest inspection showed early signs of wood rot. The safety inspector recommended closing the pirate ship and removing it.

 

Once the ship is removed, we will tidy-up the sandpit area. We are looking for ways to better contain the sand. Then we will ask pupils for their views about a new piece of equipment as a replacement.
