Sign-up for your Reception, year 2, 3 or 5 child to take part in a special poetry performance event on Tuesday 29 August, 10am - 1.30pm at school. 

 

Poetry Together unites young and old through the joy of poetry. It is founded by Gyles Brandreth, and encourages younger and older communities to connect and perform poems for one another over tea and cake. 

 

It is a wonderful way to bring communities together and it really is very special when two ends of the generational spectrum get together for a chat and a cup of tea. 

 

This year, the project kicks off with a special event at Fielding Primary School, with poetry performances to Gyles and his very special guests.

 

If you would like your child to take part and perform a poem of their choice, as a solo recital, as part of a class group or with their grandparent(s), please sign-up by Thursday, 8am:

Pupils could select a poem from class texts to practise and perform, also asking any grandparents to learn, practise and perform the poem too:

• Reception: The Owl & the Pussy Cat (by Edward Lear), The Sea (by John Foster) or Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? (by Bill Martin Jnr & Eric Carle)
• Year 2: The Spider and the Fly
• Year 3: A Song for Every Summer - poetry collection by Allie Esiri
• Year 5: Poems from a Green and Blue Planet by Sabrina Mahfouz

 

The Poetry Together team will then select and invite pupils and any grandparents to this event. Numbers are limited. Priority will be given to any pupils performing with their grandparents.

 

This is a one-off, unusual opportunity taking place in the school holidays. We recognise that not all pupils will be able to take part because this is during the school holidays. Apologies for the short notice and turn-around: we only had confirmation of the event today.
