Specialist Club Spring Uptake

In January we successfully launched our new Specialist Club Program.

The program was designed to increase the number of clubs running and amount of spaces available. We now offer 36 Specialist clubs and have the extended provision so every year group has a choice of clubs each term.  We also introduced a later time slot so children could access a range of activities. In addition we also offer a similar Specialist club to any invite clubs running.

To book clubs for this term, parents used our new Laser system. Despite some teething problems the online booking has been a success with over 100 parents logging on within the first five minutes of going live.

The feedback from children regarding the range of new activities has been overwhelmingly positive. Many children have started learning new skills and subjects which embellish and link to the current curriculum. The school will also be carrying out informal observations of all Specialist clubs to ensure that providers are maintaining a high standard for children and parents.

We’ve now created a table to show parents the current uptake of Specialist Clubs and offer clarity on our review process. We’re pleased to announce that nearly half of our Specialist Clubs are 75% to 100% full.

To ensure we are offering a popular Specialist Club program, we will be reviewing all clubs with 60% or less booking rate. This will help us refine our program and guarantee that our valuable space is used effectively. Please click on the document below to review the table.

Following parent and child feedback from our Childcare and Club consultation carried out in September. We extended our range of clubs on offer. Currently some of the clubs have lower than expected uptake.

  • Clubs marked in yellow do not start until w/c 22nd February which may contribute towards lower bookings. We encourage parents to book these clubs sooner as there is only 2 weeks left of this half term.

  • Offering clubs for Reception was a key outcome of our Childcare and Club consultation, however the uptake of clubs for this age group has been very low. To help keep these clubs running we needed to open them up to further year groups

  • Our Invite Choir club has previously been oversubscribed and held long waiting lists. As an alternative we now offer a Singing club, available for everyone in year 3, 4, 5 and 6, however uptake has been low.

  • We introduced many new sports such as Fencing, Ballet, Cheerleading, American football and Yoga, currently all have an uptake of less than 60%.

Parents are still able to book Specialist Clubs that have availability using Laser.
